Go through this sticky, it has heaps of info about connection problems Connection problems? Check here first! If you're still stuck, post your details;) System details - help us to help you |
i did look through that. i got stuck on the first thing, because the page cannot be displayed. i checked everything else out anyway, but i cannot get the test to work. do you still need my system info, or can you direct me without it? thanks. |
Give us your details please. If the port test doesn't work, it can mean that an ISP is blocking ports. |
1. OS version? xp 2. What firewalls you have? windows only i think 3. How much ram? 512 4. Hard Disk space available? 42.2 gb 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) dsl 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? actiontec GT701-WG 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.12.6 1.5.0_08 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Quest 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? cannot display page 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. no 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st try 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes |
Make sure LW's allowed thru your Windows firewall. That big connection problems thread has a link to firewall config instructions. AFAIK, Qwest don't block p2p. Have you tried accessing that test page with another browser? You could try changing ports. Within LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. On this page you'll see LW's listening port. Change it to 64049 > apply > ok. Your modem has a firewall. If the modem supports UPnP,enable it & then choose the UPnP option on that same firewall config page where you changed port number. See if that helps. If not, you could try port forwarding. Check the link below for instructions & don't forget the step of setting up a static IP, otherwise things won't work:) http://www.portforward.com/english/r...G/Limewire.htm Just remember that any ports forwarded have to be the same number as LW's listening port & ports allowed through a firewall. All numbers have to be the same. |
i changed the port and double checked that limewire is accepted through windows. Should the box above limewire be checked as well? it is in your example, but was not on my computer. (allow file and printer sharing) |
I don't use the Windows firewall anymore, but when I was using it - file & printer sharing was not checked. |
