Connection Problems - surprise surprise

Hello - I keep getting the pop up box saying no internet connection or a firewall blocking it. Please help.

1. OS version? Windows XP

2. What firewalls you have? Just the Windows one - the box is ticked that allows Limewire through, and I've also tried turning it off entirely.

3. How much ram? Not sure - enough/a lot I think

4. Hard Disk space available? Same again

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)Broadband

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? I have UK Homechoice, the laptop just plugs into the set-top box.

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Appartment

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) The latest one, I've tried reinstalling numerous times.

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) Home Choice, used to be Wanadoo.

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it say's "Your test worked!"

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem with experienced user.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?Yes i do, it went away once yesterday but it has been constantly there otherwise since the problem started.

Thanks very much.

Either of 2 things:

1. "I have UK Homechoice, the laptop just plugs into the set-top box." might be the configuration to allow outgoing thru the unit.

2. UK isp's are reknown for blocking or shaping p2p sharing programs; see the UK link at point #8 at the bottom of the 1st post here ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire. Ukbobboy01 would have a good idea of which UK isp's shape or block p2p. Some do it only during certain hours of the day (peak hours.)

Thanks - everything had worked previously very well on my old ISP Wanadoo as well as the first couple of months using Homechoice. I also googled 'Does Homechoice block Limewire' that went to another message board that detailed it not doing. My Bitorrent stuff has also been fine.

When you say 'might be configuration...', could you explain in layman terms. I'm a bit of a technophobe. Thanks a lot.
