Did it all...why can't I connect? So I have been on this site doing a variety of suggestions to no avail. I used to be able to connect to Limewire fine, but I think since I switched to my new router, something changed. I have the Linksys WRT54G router. On limewire startup, I have the brick firewall on there. Which had been there before, but I was able to connect fine before. I do not get any error messages, just all red in the bar graph at the bottom left. I have disabled the windows firewall, even tried disabling my norton firewall, but the brick is still there on startup. I am running Windows XP and the port forward feature does not work for me because Comcast only uses dynamic servers thereby=no static ip assignment for me. The test page also worked for me and I have exceptions in Norton for the ports to be enabled. Any help??? |
You know you can have a static IP even though you ISP uses Dynamic, because I have one....You don't have to ask your ISP for anything...A static IP is only used in this case to port forward your router...So go ahead and follow the instructions at portforward.com....:rolleyes_2: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...G/Limewire.htm |
I did follow all the steps anyway, and once it didnt work, I figured it was the DNS numbers. Nope. |
Can you see your DNS numbers |
I get here: If you find that you can not pull up webpages, the problem is most likely the dns numbers you entered. Give your ISP a call, and they will be able to tell you which dns servers to use. This is a question they answer all of the time. They will be able to tell you what you should use right away. Once I change the numbers, no connection. |

you should be able to then, go through it again... |
No love. I did see my ip addy went from 192.168.1.100 to 136 though. But still no LW connect. Well it connects, but no green light up. |
Have you Port Forwarded it yet |
That's what all those steps are for right? If so, yes. |
And starngely enough, it connected last night out of the blue. Then when I turned my comp back on this afternoon, LW no connect again. |
Have you entered the same number into the manual port forward and the listen port boxes in limewire... |

Ok ....I will check over that asap, but I have to go now, I will be back later... |
OK, thanks for your help. let me know if you find out anything...do you have IM? Could be easier |
Some say Comcast can shape and throttle depending on where you live... I still think it lies in Port Forwarding though... May I ask how many times you went in to do the static IP ?? The reason I ask this once done successfully you wont see all the info your suppose to any more, you only have to set up once, from then on you only have to forward a port for each application...:rolleyes_2: |
I just went back over this thread and because you said you could connect last night just fine, it could very well be Comcast throttling the connection at certain times of the day.... I just found this, this is the router you are using...Read further down the page... http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic9453.html |
I dont have vonage but everything on that list I already had disabled. I know it has something to do with the firewall in limewire. If I could just get that to go away, I would I be fine. But when I disable norton's it is still there, so is it the firewall from my router? Because my XP firewall is disabled. |
Limewire itself doesn't have a firewall it's definatley in your router, I think we need to be online at the same time so I can walk you through it, there's something your missing somewhere...:rolleyes_2: |
im here |
Do you have msn or skype |
i have aol and msn |
You are on a cable ISP that is being served by AT&T, both of which are known for blocking P2P. It is probably AT&T blocking you this time because I am seeing scattered reports of sudden loss of connectivity for both gnutella and BitTorrent in your general area. These blocks will probably disappear in 2 to 4 weeks. |
will there be a way to tell when they have fixed it? |
Just to let everyone know...We Port Forwarded and still no luck and it's a waiting game now with the ISPs...Thankyou Aaron for letting us know... |
But that can't be right because Kazaa still connects and downloads for me. |
