can't connect between 5pm-11pm

Hi,

i've been noticing since i upgraded Limewire, i can't connect between the hours of 5pm-11pm. I know this is peak time but i talked to my ISP and they don't block or slow down internet connections.

I haven't had any problems with the older version but i can't find that again.
any suggestions?

many thanks!

Who is your ISP? ISPs don't always tell customers the truth & often people on the help desk aren't even aware that any throttling's going on.
Which version of LW were you using before?

Hi,

using ISP: Tiscali

LW v.4.12.6

many thanks

Ouch. So many people are having problems with Tiscali lately. They do shape p2p traffic during peak hours & are possibly blocking as well but I can't find any proof of that. Here are some threads to read (you'll probably find more info via Google as well).

Thanks!!

As far as I can tell, there is no way around this. It means I can't download anything in the evenings which is very very annoying!! Had i known this I wouldn't have gone with Tiscali!!

I feel i should share this - i talked to my sister today who is on the exact same Tiscali tariff as me (the most expensive one) and she tells me that she can connect to P2P networks and particularly Limewire 24/7 and gets high speeds constantly.

Since she is a student and I work during the day, i'm pretty sure the "fair usage" policy that Tiscali quotes applies more to her than me. Why is my connection that gets blocked?!

If my sister can connect does it mean Tiscali doesn't block connections during peak times and it is just my computer?

Thanks!

Change ports. That's worked for a couple of Tiscali customers now. No guarantees, but it's an easy thing to do so you might as well try;)

Within LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Now change LW's listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535 (say 64049). Apply > ok. Any ports forwarded thru a router must be the same number as the listening port.

yeah i just tried, i even tried using the exact same settings and port numbers as my sister but no such luck.

thanks!

Hi jcww 88.
One thing you can do is Vote with your feet and dump Tiscali in the bin where
it belongs. People may have other Names but NTL, Who I have just connected
with are giving me speeds of 380 KBs to 400 KBs Down n 60KBs to 70KBs UP
on a 4Mbit con. Bethere.co.uk is another ive heard good things about.
Dont put up with being riped off by tiscali.
Peace.
