LW wont open

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) : XP

2. What firewalls you have? dont know

3. How much ram? not sure

4. Hard Disk space available? plenty

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) dsl

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? my room

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. I have the latest for both

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Verizon

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it says your test worked

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. i have a linksys network adapter and across the house is the router and other computer

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. im experienced

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? i cant open up limewire

when i open lw the green box comes up that says limewire and 4.12 and its stuck there. ive opened it at least 5 times in a row and it opened but now i cant get it to open. i removed limewire and java from my computer and reinstalled both of them, and its still the same thing. It happened about a month ago when i updated to a newer version. Before that i hadn't had any problems over the past year. Thanks for any help

Check the options here Fixes for Limewire. Delete LW prefs folder. Did you reinstall Java online or offine? How about removing all versions of Java, rebooting & reinstalling offline. Also try step 5 about compatibility. For some odd reason this sometimes works even when you're using XP.

How do i delete the pref folder? i dont remember if i downloaded it offline i might have. i had a really hard time reinstalling java every time it failed, and then i finally got it to work. Compatibility step 5 didnt work.

Ah you probably have a corrupt Java installation. Download the "OFfline" installer, not the online installer. So with the offline installer you're installing from the computer, not over the internet. But remove the other installation as it's probably corrupt. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp which is about 15 MB downld file.

Your prefs folder ... can be found if you see the sample image from the instructions. For you I believe it will be the 2nd last post of that thread. So re-read through Step 2 of the link I gave.

i uninstalled both limewire and java, rebooted my computer and neither will install now. java stops after i click run and nothing happens. limewire stops when it gets to installing java. i did them both online and offline. i deleted my preference folder. so now i cant install either

Lord of the Rings January 18th, 2007 09:14 PM

If Java was installed 1st using the "Offline" installer, then it shouldn't need to be reinstalled during the installation of LW. You need to reboot the computer after removing Java. If not, you may run into problems.

i did reboot right after i removed java

Are you getting an error from Java when you try to install?
Try installing using a different browser...sometimes that makes a difference.
