Download a file from here & see what speed you get http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml Tell us your details System details - help us to help you |
what are these files and whichone do i download.there are 14.i downloaded episode 1 and the speed is around 14 to 16kbs. but is some sumtimes going to down to 1-3kbs.there is something wrong, |
Download any one. Magnetmix is a site with free, legal downloads...it's a bit of a test really, those files should download quite quickly (I just got 114 KB/s). If files from magnetmix download really slowly, it can point to an ISP problem. |
i dont no like my computer for example, it never had this problem an still donsnt becuase it always usually have normal speed in all downloads.its my laptop which has this router which has this problem. so do u still thinks its my isp? |

my router configuration is upnp in limewire. my listening port is 31996.i even disabled and enabled upnp for my router as i said i my first post. can u please tell me what else you need to know. |
Who is your ISP? What's the brand & model of your router? |
my service provider is rogers which is in canada. my router is d link. |
I think Rogers is your problem:( but why you can download fine on one computer & not another I wouldn't know! I'd expect you to be shaped on both:confused: Check these out http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ghlight=Rogers http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ghlight=Rogers http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ghlight=Rogers You could try changing ports. In LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to one between 49152 - 65535, or try port 80. If you've allowed a specific port number thru a software firewall that will have to be the same as LW's listening port. There's no guarantee that this will work, but it's something to try. |
i dont no.my laptop which i connent the router to has this problem and the same problem is with the bit torrent. |
Try changing ports & see if anything improves. If not, give me the model of your D-Link & you could try forwarding a port thru your router. |
i tried some ports between 49152 - 65535 and it dosnt work.my d linkmodel is DI 524 |
Ok here are instructions for your router http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm Before you forward a port, make sure to set up a static IP address. You'll find a link for this within those port forwarding instructions. Remember...the port forwarded & LW's listening port must be the same number. |
the link isnt working |
It worked a few minutes ago...just give it a little while & try it again (page isn't loading for me right now, either). |
i have a question..do i set up the static ip adress in my computer or in my laptop that has the wireless usb?also what do i do if something goes wrong? |
Set it up on the computer that you want to forward the port for...the one that you're having probs with. If port forwarding doesn't help then I'd guess it's some Rogers issue. |
no imean i am setting up the static ip rite now, if static ip does not work.will my internet not work?...if this case how would i change it back |
Nothing would go wrong...except that port forwarding wouldn't work. You're not changing your normal IP at all...just setting up one for your router to recognise. |
i have a problem with static ip, when i click on internet protocol and then properties, it ticked on obtain a ip address automoticly instead of use the following ip adress. and when i click on "use the followin ip address",all the fields are emty.what do i do? |

Go back to the start of the instructions for setting up a static IP & start from scratch. Write down all the info that you see when you type in "ipconfig/all"...that way you can put info into the fields if you need to. |
ummm after i set up the static ip adress where do i chk what my static ip is because when i click on my network connection it is the same ip. and i know i set it up rite. |

so i did the port forwording thing and opend lime wire and now there is a fire wall sign in the bottom and is not downloading anything.so now what do i do to change it back |
Just go into LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config & untick that manual port forward button > apply. If you want to, you can go log back into your router & remove the rules you created in there too. Did you make sure that LW's listening port & the port forwarded were the same number? It sounds like you did something wrong along the way somewhere...port forwarding is usually very reliable. But if you don't want to try again that's fine, it is a bit of a fiddly thing to set up. |
i m willing to try again if i have to:(...but i dont no..i mean i folled the instructions.but i have one dought. in the internal protocol properties,is the alternative dns server fiend suppose to be emty? |
If you dont see 2 DNS numbers where the instructions say you should, you need to ring your ISP and ask for them...Don't tell them why or what you want them for as most ISP's charge a large amount to set up a static IP for you and they will tell you that you wont be able to do it.... One other query I have what did you mean by Quote:
|
well the option that was ticked before was obtain a ip address automoticly. but i changed it...and entered my ip address by clicking use the followin ip address. but i dont know what t0 enter in the alternative dns server. i know that the dns adress goes in the preferrend dns address.but what do i put in the alternativedns adress field?. also i just noticed that obtain an ip adress automaticlly is marked again which means i have to get all the info again to set up the static ip.do u guys know whyt this might have happend? |
Why did you change it?? your not suppose to...Go back and start again and follow the instructions exactly...I know it's not an easy task to do but if you take your time and do it correctly you should have success...:rolleyes_2: |
but i did not change anything i just closed the computer and turned it on and i checked rite now and was back to normal:confused: |
ok so i was trying to set up the static ip again but when i enter the ip, the subnet mask, the default gate way and the dns address i get this error "the ip address you have entered for this network adapter is alredy assigned to another adapter 'd link air plus G wireless USB adapter (rev C)'. 'd link air plus G wireless USB adapter (rev C)' is hidden from the network connection folder because it is not physically in the computer. if the same address is assigned to both adapters and they both become active, only one of them will use them. they may result incorrect system configuration. do you want to enter a different ip address for this adapter in the list of ip addresses in the advance dialoge box?" |
I have no idea what has happened, I've never heard of that before... My suggestion would be to enter all the numbers that where there before (you know where it says to write them down just in case something goes wrong)...There's not alot more I can help you with because the static IP is just not working for you...Sorry... |
i know what it is trying to say. it is trying to say that i alredy set it up and i cant do it again..i think.because as i said i did do it yesterday. |
this 'forwarding a port thru your router' thing. are you sure i should do this with my laptop which has the wireless usb and not the computer that has the connection to the actual router. |
It's your laptop that you're having trouble with. From what you said earlier, the other computer doesn't have any problems. Quote:
Is it absolutely vital to have LW on both computers? Maybe you could just use LW on the computer that has no problems? |
umm:wasntme: i think its a bit late now i chage it and my comp with internt connected to the router is going slow now too.i think i got the port fowarding thing rite because the internet is working but let me change it to the way it was before and see if this comp is still downloading fast.and about the version of the lime wire..my computer has 4.12.6 in the computer and my laptop, which has this problem, has 4.13 pro. but i think its not version, because my bitorrents speed was pretty low too in my laptop that has this problem. |
