Connection Paradox
 

Appears others have no problem uploading from me---connection bars are "turbocharged".....but for no apparent reason, I CAN NO LONGER DOWNLOAD!!! Tried all the "connection" fixes I could find....when it occured to me that I already AM connected. If I wasn't, the bars wouldn't be "green" blah, blah.

Windows XP, LW 4.126 Java 1.5.0, and little brick wall in front (Firewall on) even when I totally turn off Windows firewall and all other firewalls I think I have. Plenty of memory, direct cable connection....when I upgraded a few weeks ago everything was perfect. Then POW! I'm suddenly only a 'source' for others....and my downloads all say "searching...", "need more sources".....any ideas?

Wrote LW tech support....alas, no response.

You are not alone!!! I have the same problem. I am completely connected but nothing will download. :shoot: It also happened shortly after I upgraded. Before that, I didnt have any problems with LimeWire. Someone please HELP!!!

I have a 'fair' connection, also no files appear to download. I am a Limewire Pro user and just within the past 2 weeks have had this problem. Also, could not log on to Limewire tech support because my e-mail address was not recognized. Any suggestions?

...Yeah! So it's NOT just me!
 

Are the rest of you noticing that other people are easily uploading from you while you can't download? I opened the "monitor" tab and found lots of grinning, green smiley faces from all the users who are happily downloading my stuff. Must be nice.....:annoyed:

Well, I've been on here everyday(since my LW wasnt working:mad: )and I finally found the answer! MaMa, I know exactly how you feel. I hope this works for you also.

1. Make sure LW is completely closed

2. Follow the link

3. Click on "Audio" (upper-left corner)

4. Click on one of the songs

5. It will open LW for you and start downloading the song, along with any others you had stuck on "Connecting......":bangh:


I couldn't believe it!!! I dont know how it fixed my problem, but I'm not complaining.

Hey, "Boo": So excited to see a suggestion to my dilemma but get this: it has taken me 2 DAYS just to access this forum!!!!!!:shoot: First, the whole LW issue....then, Gnutella "down" (at least for me). Maybe I should just go back to paper, pencil and vinyl records:dance:

OK-got your message, read it, so glad it worked but I have NO idea what you are telling me to do. Get totally out of LW......got it. Then, follow the link?????? :confused: Could you be a tad more detailed? What link?

:rofl: Thanks for the link, mickjapa: read through all the posts and followed Lord's instructions....no cigar. Still don't get why others are happily uploading from me yet I can't seem to get a decent connection to download.......

GRANDPA: re: laundry list of information you suggest......in case any of the LW STAFF is monitoring this site::annoyed: ........I sent LW "support" an email with all the info you list (except speed test, whatever that is). Got their "you'll hear from us...", automatic reply. Guess my hearing isn't that good as I've yet to get that response. Sorry for the obvious sarcasm traced with frustration......directed at LW, not you.

Here goes: Windows XP, tons of memory, dsl/cable modem (Webstar), Lynksys router, from home, LW 4.12.6 Pro, Java 1.5.0, TimeWarner Road Runner ISP.....

Did I mention I paid 60 bucks or so for FROSTWIRE (and their "accessories) after this started? Same problem, not to mention that FW appears to be a mere a LW clone, except its colors are blue and white. Called FW's "live" support re: problem.....he told me: "only download one song at a time"...."must use download arrow, not double click".....had me do an audio search for "love" and pick a song. *******'s "********"....ice age thawed quicker than that song was coming in. His comment? "Sometimes its busy" and lots of "really sorry you are having this troubles"...call back if you need assistance.

Called back...credit me with FULL refund please.......still waiting for that confirmation:lazy2:

Sorry for the rant......just that it worked fine before then WHAM! Just quit (downloading....again, people seem to be uploading just fine!?) Maybe its a lunar thing, a conspiracy or just me. Go figure. :paranoid:

Thank you for the follow up, JJBoo: great link but alas, came into my LW as ?kb size and waiting...........with the seconds countdown. I eliminated all but one download.........and even it didn't respond. Thanks again...maybe it will work for others.

About my "rant" to "GRANDPA" in my previous post....big ooops as I think I read his message on the link that mickjappa sent which is why his message isn't in this thread. Just wanted you to know in case you thought I was completely crazy. Only LW challenged.

Oh yeah, one more thing that I discovered after following the steps listed above---

LW worked fine for about 2 days, then same thing, Connecting............
So, I just followed the steps again and it started working again.
Its kind of frustrating, but at least I am downloading something and not just stuck on Connecting.....

I'm just using this as a temporary fix until something better comes along.


And Mama, my system info is almost the same as yours(if that means anything)

What 'accessories' did you get? Some antispyware? Accelerator? I wouldn't bother using whatever it is...chances are that it's very crappy & will be of little or no use. You could also find that there's associated spy/adware. My advice would be to get the whole lot off your computer!

I gave up on LW and installed Bearshare. Its working great--for now anyway

I still kept my LW installer just in case it decides to start working again.

Hi - I'm just new here. I just spent a couple of hours going all through the forums trying to find a solution to my problem. You all seem to have the same as I do. I was runing a lower version of LW & had no problems. Upgrade to 4.12.11 and can't download a single thing. I shutoff every firewall, my router, antvirus, and any program that might interfere with my connection. No help at all. I have been working on this for 3 days now. Anyone out there with any help???
