Please Help?? Anyone?(connection problem)

Hi!
Please, somebody help me!! Ha. Okay so um... obviously I'm having problems connecting.

I've already tried everything I could think of. I just bought a new laptop with Windows Vista, and I'm not hooked up to my own internet connection yet. I'm connected to another wireless network in my area; my neighbor actually. (Yes, I have permission.) :) Anyways, I think those two things might be a problem, but I'm not sure. I mean, it's not like I don't have enough space... it's a brand new computer! I have, like, 73GB and I'm just really perplexed here. Oh, I'm so scatterbrained... I didn't even say what the real problem was:

Okay, well, Limewire downloaded fine. I've used it in the past with my other computers and never had a problem. Now, however... I can't get any search results, let alone download anything at all! Basically the crux of the problem seems to be the stupid network connection. The little bars in the bottom left corner never fill up, even though Limewire assures me that the connection will strengthen the longer I let it run or something. Which, by the way, is totally not true. I can only maintain ONE green bar at most. **sigh** While I was waiting for my username and all that to get registered for these forums, I read a bunch of posts about connections since I couldn't post any questions myself. As a result of the aforementioned... I downloaded some new Java 6 thingy and changed my firewall settings to allow Limewire to run (supposedly.) It didn't work, needless to say. I'm a total moron... honestly I'm practically computer illiterate here! But I would be most greatful if someone could just help me out here!!! I'll be your best friend, ever! Lol. Thanks to anyone who even gets back to me. I don't know how these forums go or if I'll even get a response. But I appreciate anyone who read all that looong crap I wrote. :)

Hi Friend.
can you cut n paste this form, In your post with answers filled in please.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.

So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98,XP.SP2. )?
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
Peace.

Hehe. Oops, sorry. I knew that I needed to give more information... :)

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98,XP.SP2. )? Vista
2. What firewalls you have? Just a basic Windows Firewall that came with the computer.
3. How much ram? 446MB
4. Hard Disk space available? 54.9 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)? Router.. does that count? It's probably a broadband connection, I think.
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Where on earth do I find that?! Any hints?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Appartment complex.
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire 4.12.11, Java 1.6.0 oem
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? I can't figure that out because technically I don't have the internet. My laptop is routed to another internet connection and I don't know who their ISP is.
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It won't load. It says my connection has timed out.
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Weeell, as I mentioned several times... I'm using a router (I think.) I just go to "connect" at my start menu and it connects me to open, unprotected computer networks in the area.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. It's a new problem, I've used Limewire before, but never with this computer. It's a new computer.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? I most certainly do. Err, that means my firewall is on I guess? Is that bad?

I think you have the wrong java, use this link n info to update.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Now! Use this Link to get JRE 6 Use the off line installer NOT the (recormended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Follow thease instructions exactly.

Now you may still have to give us router brand n model but do this first
Look on the router or the box it came in and post it.
VISTA will only run on java JRE 6 at present.
Peace.

Problems downloading :(

I have a feeling I'm screwed! Lol. I followed the instructions exactly, downloading the offline version... I saved it to the computer, then attempted to open the file to begin downloading like I usually do with all files. It opened in adobe reader for some reason. I don't know what other application to open it in, or how to make it do so! Arghh! SO frustrating. Now what? Is there anyway to download this Java thingermabob properly? Like I said... I'm a computer idiot.

mickjapa108 February 3rd, 2007 04:02 AM

Hi Friend
You do not need a program to open it, just double click on it, IT self installs
Just follow info. Close the internet connection & all apps that appear in task
manager then 2 clicks on the java download.
Tell us what happens, Probs just shout.
Peace.

Dear Superforumer of the universe(s),

For many months, I've been listening to the same songs over and over again. Why? Cause I coundn't get my limewire work for me.

At the beginning, I thought Limewire was having some technical problems. Next I thought it was all due to some cable-snapped somewhere underneath the sea (saw it on the news) but it isn't. After many many months of waiting, I bla bla bla, then bla bla bla and bla bla. I then decided to search for reliable solution on Gnutella forums.

I obeyed all instructions, removed my current javascript and downloaded the javasript JRE 6 (offline version, mind u) and voila, it managed to bring my Limewire back to net-life. But not the speed. (though the Limewire's "bar" is full and lighted light-sky blue)

I also did some changes to the Tool-Option-Speed sections but STILL my downloads are going oh-superbly-slow! (Used to have around 50 for everything!) Now it only sit at 2 , most of the time just 1. Please help!

OPERATING SYSTEM : XP PROFESSIONAL (not ori) Pentium 4
SHARING : No. Personal.
FIREWALL : Off. (just blue earth/world)
RAM : 512mb
SPACE : 120 gig
CONNECTION : Broadband 6500 kb/s
ISP : Starhub
I'VE GONE HERE : http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ Yes, it work splendidly.

Hope u/all would help, or else I would be the next product of misery.

Much pain in heart,
