Unstable Connection

I have been using Limewire for several years and just began having problems getting an "excellent" connection. My connection is at "fair" and does not seem to be getting better the longer that I stay connected.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? McAfee
3. How much ram? 512MB
4. Hard Disk space available? 25.9GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Conexant D110 MDCV.9x Linksys Router
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.8.1 Java 1.4.2_03
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? My test worked!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I was able to connect the day before yesterday and for the past several years. Nothing has changed in my computer setup.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? I do not see a blue world icon, just 5 bars.

Any suggestions?

I tried this and it did not work.

1. Heres my solution that i came across...if you go to TOOLS and then OPTIONS and select the ADVANCED>FIREWALL CONFIG tab and select the 'MANUAL PORT FORWARDING' option.
2. Apply the settings and close the box.
3. Go FILE>DISCONNECT
4. Go FILE>CONNECT (This resets the connection...correct me if theres an easier way)
5. Go back to TOOLS>OPTIONS>ADVANCED>FIREWALL CONFIG and reselect 'USE UPnP'
6. Repeats step 3 and 4

When I originally saw this post I thought that it did not work as I did't read far enough. I tried it and I am connected.

For those who are having trouble connection to the Gnutella network using LimeWire, we have a potential fix. You need to delete your WHOLE LimeWire preferences directory. The directory can be found in the following locations:

OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Windows:
C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Linux:
~/.limewire

Please shutdown any instance of LimeWire you may have running, delete the whole directory, and then restart LimeWire. You should be able to connect.

Thanks!
