no results found for any search

Everytime I open LimeWire this pop-up appears: "LimeWire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network."

Thereafter, no results will be found for any search.

Can someone help me?

mickjapa108 February 14th, 2007 04:09 AM

Hi Thedimholtroad.
System details - help us to help you

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.

So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX ) XP users Please state XP firewall on or off.?
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first! but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth, some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions, or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

Hi there

Have checked on the control panel. Windows Firewall already 'off'.

Back to you, thanks.

mickjapa108 February 16th, 2007 09:34 AM

OK
Its sounding like Tesco may shape P2P

What router have you ?

chuntzy February 16th, 2007 10:19 AM

Sorry, don't know what you're referring to.

Tesco connects us to the internet and then we use Mozilla Firefox.

We have a modem of course but as for 'router's ??

(I'm 64 and not well up in these things)

Just thought, did you mean LimeWire PRO?

30 minutes later (edited) - no, of course, you didn't mean that. I'm trying to delve into my PC to see if we've got a router without knowing it!

Tried but it's too techy for me IPv6 protocols etc..

mickjapa108 February 16th, 2007 10:53 AM

Sorry Man

Your (ISP) is your Internet service Provider
Its sounding like Tesco may shape P2P that means throttle, so file sharing programs wont work properly
Phone Tesco and ask them directly if there shaping Bandwidth !!

Have you given full permisions for L/W to pass through Norton. ?
Peace.

birdy February 16th, 2007 11:06 PM

Hi thedimholtroad,
You missed out the 3 reeeally important answers...

Who is your ISP (internet service provider), who do you pay for your internet acess?

What's the brand & model of your router?

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue globe at the bottom of LW's interface)?

And also...you say you're connecting from work & house. Are you working from home & have an internet connection payed for by your employer, or are you having trouble connecting from 2 totally separate locations??

mickjapa108 February 17th, 2007 02:52 AM

If it was a scam site why would money be refunded?

(Just a thought, mickjapa108)

birdy February 19th, 2007 01:24 AM

chuntzy,
Some scammers will refund money if pushed hard enough & if the complaint comes within the "money back guarantee" period...have a look here & see how other people have got their refunds;)
get your $$$ BACK!!! (music members)

Please note I subscribed to iMusicDownloads whose software was LimeWire, so I wasn't with any rubbishy site. I got a refund with no hassle.

birdy February 20th, 2007 01:21 AM

Please note that they're on the list of rogue sites here:rofl:

Opinion?

thedimholtroad February 20th, 2007 05:40 PM

oh i'm sorry! i meant i'm having trouble from 2 different locations.
workplace: and yes, there's a brick wall in front of the blue globe.. my isp is singnet, as for the router, i really don't know because the internet here is sort of wireless.. the whole building's connected.
home: i deleted limewire from the home computer already. my dad complained it was taking up too much space.

i'm obviously not very good at computers. sorry.

birdy February 20th, 2007 06:21 PM

Hi thedimholtroad,
That's ok, don't worry about it:)

You should ask your employer what their policy is on p2p use...lots of employers won't let employees use p2p at work. If it turns out that it's ok for you to use LW at work, you'll have to find out what firewalls are in place there. Talk to whoever's in charge of the building's internet.

But please do ask whether it's ok for you to use LW at work...or you could find youreslf in all kinds of trouble;)

birdy February 20th, 2007 06:31 PM

Hi chuntzy,
I've had a look at the site. I can't find out whether they're offering basic LW or Pro, as I'm not going to pay $34.95 to get more info.

In my opinion...yes, they are ripping you off. If you recieve LW basic, you're paying for a product that's free. If you recieve LW Pro, you're paying more that you should for the product. The extra software offered is quite possibly freeware also...it's impossible to tell without becoming a member.
In the FAQ, they kind of address this
Quote:

I thought the software was free. Why am I being asked to pay?
You are paying for The Membership, The Tutorials, unlimited technical support and so we can run the website. We do not charge you for any of the software you receive.
http://www.imusic-downloads.com/faq.htm

I wonder why they aren't telling people up front exactly what software they're getting. Which iPod converter (there are a few free ones)? Which Antivirus (there are loads of good free ones)? And so on. If it were me, I'd want to know what I was getting first...then decide whether I wanted to pay for tutorials (which are most likely to be found with a Google search anyway) & email tech support.

We always advise people to download LW from the official site only, for their own protection. To make sure they're getting a clean version & not being charged for a free product, or being overcharged for Pro.

In the end though, of course, it's your choice whether you go with a scam site or the official site.

thedimholtroad February 22nd, 2007 05:47 AM

hi i'm actually quitting my work soon to continue my studies.. i've installed limewire on my home computer as well with the same problem, the router model for my computer at home is smc7904wbra.

mickjapa108 February 22nd, 2007 06:11 AM
