Beating a dead ******-Can't connect

Okay here goes...I just bought this computer 2days ago..I've never had a computer b4 so this is all foreign stuff to me.I see people talking about this and that but I have no idea what they're saying so if you already posted an answer I'm sorry for repeating but I need this in lamen terms. Anyway, I was able to down load Limewire but when I go to access it shows me the tips and when I go to search a song It pops up saying that "Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network." Then no downloads appear. Any suggestions...I've been online and I know it's not b/c of that. Now here's my info. I don't even know how to begin to find this so I'm just copying off the box.Forgive me:)

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX ) XP users Please state XP firewall on or off.? VISTA HOME BASIC
2. What firewalls you have?WINDOWS AND MCAFEE(Both have exceptions for LW)
3. How much ram?512MB
4. Hard Disk space available?160GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)DIAL-UP
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?UMM.I THINK IT'S E-MACHINE-MODEL#W3611
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?HOME
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.LW4.12.11&I THINK IT'S JAVA5.0
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?AOL
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?JUST SAYS YOUR TEST WORKED IN SMALL BLACK PRINT
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.NO
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.MY FIRST TIME
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?NO

Thanks for any help...I'm getting desperate..I've been trying to get this going for the past2days and I'm going crazy...again sry if it's not the right info.

Hi ShY
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Now! Use this Link to get JRE 6 Use the off line installer NOT the (recormended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Follow thease instructions exactly.
Vista needs java JRE 6
Shout if you need help.
Peace.

I went to start and when I tried to lookup the java and delete it but it wasn't there. When I went to download the new Java I chose to save it and when I did it told me that this file already exists& I over rode it.Now do I shut off the internet now or after it finishes downloading? It's at 15% now. I hate this:)

mickjapa108 February 14th, 2007 11:02 AM

Let it complete then closee things.
Peace

Vista

If uninstalling java doesn't work go to start-control panel-under programs you'lll choose uninstall a program- find mcafee and choose uninstall. it will pop a box with different options to uninstall, go ahead and choose all of them. after that's finished limewire should work fine. you'll probably need to get a different kind of virus protection because evidently mcafee and limewire don't mix too well. Good Luck!!

Shy Hi.

VISTA will only work fully with the NEW, java JRE 6 so use the link I gave ABOVE.
if there's any other probs we will deal with that after.
Never use Two Firewalls at the same time, You will get less Protection NOT MORE they interfear with each other.

THIS POST HAS BEEN CORECTED
Peace.

okay..thanks mick..but we did run into another problem...I downloaded the new java and now I can actually search for stuff but when I go to download it it will say connecting for a few min. and then a box pops up saying"Your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking LW from accesssing the internet. LW will keep trying unless you select disconnect" My internet will be working fine until that point and then I can't get onto any AOL websites. Now a question about LW...I have dial-up can I select downloads that say t1 or higher or cable or do I have to stick with modem?
