trying to add the port to router

ok i have done everything on what it says, just to make sure, is the start and finishing ports 6346? and i think i done the ip bit wrong, is my computer IP the same as the router thingy? e.g 198.168.0 etc

on this site http://www.portforward.com/english/r...G/Limewire.htm

or is my zonealarm firewall blocking it? its allowed on the programmes but i saw this on the site

Adding An Exception For The Gnutella Port
Within LimeWire, go to: Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewall Config, and make a note of the listening port located in the box next to "Listen on Port"
Open the settings of your security program (usually by right-clicking the system tray icon)
Locate a section for adding exceptions for specific ports
Add the port specified in LimeWire's settings as an exception for both UDP and TCP, incoming and outgoing (also known as opening the port)

Does anyone who has zonealarm (lastest version) know how i can add this? all i could find was the IP things that had my rounter as one of them.

Hi atheeta. Pranaams.:Smilywais:
Setting up a static IP at first is most important, Did you do that ?
Here is a link to show you how, If you have a printer, copy the page to paper
its easyer to follow. if not coppy to notepad.
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
Then go back to the link you posted and enter static IP. & continue with port
faward that should work, any probs get back to me n post your details

System details - help us to help you Please.
Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

what did you do to get the wall to go away?

wondering why March 10th, 2007 01:08 PM

Here are the instructions to port forward your modem/router...
There for the F5D7230-4...I wasn't sure if you made a typo with the two 7's

http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm

Make sure you follow the instructions and make sure you set up your static IP...

Also here's some info you could find handy about your ISP....
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ght=windstream

hstorer721 March 10th, 2007 03:20 PM

I've done it once before, both forwarding and static ip. I am to the point that I am really afraid i'll do something to totaly screw pc up..... is that a potential problem if its not done correctly. It did not work at all the last time i did that, which was yesterday..... I'm pretty sure I did all that is described in the instructions you point to.

I have come to believe that it is my provider, Windstream, that is blocking Limewire. I tested downloading Kazaa, and Blub something and the samething is happening. I believe it is the bandwitdth control issue with the isp provider. I may have to keep trying p2p until I find one that is not blocked. Yesterday, I downloaded 1 song from walmart downloads and I was able to, no problem.......what do you think?

mickjapa108 March 11th, 2007 01:11 AM

hstorer721.
Phone Windstream and ask them directly if they Filter P2P traffic.
And ask for that in writing. They may come clean then.
Please post back with info, it helps us a lot.

Here is a post by another Windstream user you may find relivant
emtga.
Hey just figured it out!!!!!! Thanks for all your help!!!! Here is something that may help other alltel users also!!!!!!!

Alltel has been changed to windstream.... go to the windstream.net website
in the upper right hand corner of the page they have a broadband checkup center click on that and go to firewall... u can pick the strength of the firewall i turned mine completely off and now limewire works... ps....u may have to download active x controls but that is also on the windstream website.
Hope this helps you.
Peace.

hstorer721 March 11th, 2007 05:44 AM

thank you to all so far for your replies. I did go to the windstream site and checked. the firewall option was already turned off. i think they filter certain p2p's such as limeware and other music sites. The strange thing is that we just got dsl in our area from windstream (1 wk) and other people a few miles down like my sister are able to connect to limewire..... so did they wise up and shut us! thanks again all
