I need help!! (files won't connect) It seems that I am also having the same connection issues as many of the other people who have been posting messages today. I have checked and removed any firewalls, yet I still have the brick wall in front of the globe at the bottom of the screen. I also get all of the bars to turn green, yet my downloads continue to say "connecting". I have uninstalled limewire and downloaded it again, but this has not corrected the problem. What can I do?!?!? |
Start by reading this Connection problems? Check here first! Make sure you're only using 1 software firewall & that it's configured properly...don't run with no firewall. There might be a firewall within your modem/router. Read the info in that thread above about using UPnP & port forwarding. If you're stuck, give us some info System details - help us to help you You need to make the title of a thread a bit descriptive..."I need help" is not enough. |
I have looked at those threads and have done everything I have seen posted relating to the issue that I am currently having. Still nothing seems to correct this problem 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) XP 2. What firewalls you have? Norton 3. How much ram? 448 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? linksys wcg200 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW4.13.2 java 1.5.0_11 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? RCN 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it works 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. NO 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. new problem 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes |
Files that sit connecting for ages & then need more sources are often fake. They'll never download. See the 2 threads below for info & tips Fake files showing up in search results How to find music(applies to video, too) There is a firewall within your router. How do you have your router set up (UPnP enabled, port forwarded or neither)? |
I have tried downloading using files with fewer results- same thing happens. Continues to say "connecting"- never starts the download I now have it set using UPnP |
Try using the All Types search. Look for artist or album name rather than song title. As a test, see if you can download an old song & choose a file with 1 or 2 sources only, or a single modem source. Also check the file with Bitzi. A lot of music's not rated, unfortunately, but you might get lucky & find a file with a rating. If you really can't download any files at all, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See points 2 & 3 below. If you've used LW versions older than 4.9.34, you could have a folder in both locations. Deleting this folder will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through & reset things afterwards. Fixes for LimeWire Has the brick wall disappeared? If it's still there, double check your Norton config. You could also look at port forwarding...the instructions for your router are below http://www.portforward.com/english/r...0/Limewire.htm Make sure that you set up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & the port forwarded all have to be the same number. |
