LimeWire ERROR!!!

OK by now I am a pro with LimeWire on everything except what I need to know. I've been everywhere, called everyone, asked different questions and searched in different ways on Google n00b style for the answer but to no avail. I'm sure you guys have seen this one before... It used to work for me just so you all know....

'LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire'

I have:

Windoze XP Home SP1
Linksys Router (using the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration utility)
From HP
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
1.80 GHz
224 RAM
80 GB HDD

SpySweeper
Windows Firewall is off

Optimum Online

Trying to connect from Home

when I go to http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ it says my test worked...

I tried to go to eTomi Pro and FrostWire but they didn't work either... I set up my router to add extra ports for LiumeWire starting on port 1 to port 7000, but it didn't do anything.

So yeah... Help Please!!!

There are a lot of linksys routers. What model do you have?

See this thread: Connection problems? Check here first!

You may need to portforward your router. Instructions here: http://portforward.com/routers.htm

Be sure to set up a static ip address first or it won't work: http://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

Just to add to what 6 Pac, has said use Ports starting at 50000 to 65000 in
LimeWire.
Peace.

I have a LinkSys WRT54G v4 and a usb adapter WUSB54GC

Try setting your router to UPnP. See instructions here: http://www.panasonic.co.jp/pcc/produ...ys_wrt54g.html. Then set limewire to UPnP in Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Config, tick the UPnP button, click apply. Make sure the listen on port is the one you allowed access through your firewall.

Don't think the usb adapter WUSB54GC is affecting it.

I don't see UPnP anywhere on the Administration Page or on my router for that matter... Windows firewall is off, but if it was on would be allowing UPnP aspects...

Hopefully that picture displays, but if not I only see the following categories:

Router Password
SSHD
Telnet Daemon
Scripts
Utilities

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only thing I see that has UPnP in it is the following on a page entitled UPnP...

UPnP Port Forwardings:

From (WAN) To (LAN) IP Address Proto Description
16808 6881 192.168.1.102 tcp BitTorrent
20306 6881 192.168.1.100 tcp BitTorrent
59509 6881 192.168.1.100 tcp BitTorrent
36553 1024 192.168.1.100 tcp BitTorrent
59220 1024 192.168.1.100 tcp BitTorrent
16464 1024 192.168.1.100 tcp BitTorrent
52282 1024 192.168.1.102 tcp BitTorrent
14790 6346 192.168.1.136 tcp LimeTCP1AC1BAEB77
14790 6346 192.168.1.136 udp LimeUDP1AC1BAEB77

If I click any of these things it will ask me if I want to delete them from the list.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then there is a section that says:

Settings

UPnP service X Enable Disable
Clear port forwards at startup Enable X Disable
Send presentation URL Enable X Disable

Yeah the picture doesn't display and I tried to line up the columns, but no luck.

UPnP service is enabled

Clear port forwards at startup is disabled

Send presentation URL is disabled

Also just so you know, that message:

'LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire'

Appears at the startup screen and closes the process so I don't even get in. Thus, I cannot edit options in Limewire.

It might be Java related. Try removing your current version of Java from the add/remove programs section and then download and install the latest version from here(Use the offline installer): http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Then d/load and install limewire using the offline installer: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

If still no joy, try deleting the LW preference folder, points 2 & 3 in this thread: Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should! Deleting the pref folder will reset the LW options back to the default, so make a note of any changes you've made.

Let us know how you get on.

Done... Dne.... Done...

No change :( :( :(

mickjapa108 March 15th, 2007 06:59 AM

You may need to go back to #2 link2 in 6pac's Post and set up manual portforward,
