Need more info. Best guess is a firewall.

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

hi grandpa

thanks for trying to help, but i uninstalled and reinstalled LW, turned off Windows XP firewall and hey presto success!!

Does my firewall have to be off permantely? if yes is this safe?

Thanks once again

Grandpa March 25th, 2007 06:32 AM

No it should not have to be off only configured to allow LimeWire.

football14 March 25th, 2007 07:15 AM

me again

hello again

am now trying to sort out my friends computer to connect to lw. done everything the same, but to no avail.

bottom right hand corner on lw has red blocks not green, is this anything to do with lw not connecting?

Windows XP
14/8 GB free space
external wireless broadband modem
BT ISP
Java J2SE runtime environment 5.0 update 11
not sure of any other details

Grandpa March 25th, 2007 08:29 AM

The wireless modem probably has a firewall in it.

fletch247 March 27th, 2007 12:55 PM

football14 when yours wasn't workin did it have a message like this :

Limewire is currently connecting to the network.Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network.

coz if you did can you tell me what to do to get it working. I dont think its the same problem though.

birdy March 27th, 2007 11:35 PM

I am having the same problem as fletch247, I can dl the songs I already searched, but I cannot search anymore. My Firewall is off, but still nothing.
Win XP Pro
1.40 GHz/448 RAM
internal dial-up 56K modem
Java 1.5.0_03
LW 4.12.11
ISP-AOL Home computer
And there is the brick wall/blue world icon on the bottom of my LW
That is all that I am sure of =( sorry

wondering why April 2nd, 2007 10:54 PM

janajayblue your problem may be with AOL, do you use the security package it comes with ?? If so uninstall it, as it will prevent limewire from working...

Here are a list of free spyware apps that are very good...:rolleyes_2:

Well, I never installed the security package, and my windows firewall is off but still no searching for me.=(

Try these fixes and see if they help you...Your current Java is very outdated..
Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE offline version....(5th one down)
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp

Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...
http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...oadfree2.shtml

Then delete your preference folder...

janajayblue April 4th, 2007 09:11 PM

My java is the J2SE 5.0 Update 3, Is that an old one?
But anyway, I managed to get the brick wall off the blue globe and it was working great ther for a while and now my connection graph is only showing one bar again. Now what? This is making me crazy!

wondering why April 4th, 2007 10:26 PM

Did you end up doing the Java, you need to get the offline JRE 5.11....

If you have already done that try Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

Got it! Thanx sooo much!! You have saved me from the asylum!!
