No Search Results!!

Firstly, im a computer nooby. The problem is that limewire doesnt have any search results. I've already done the port thing, both the listening port on limewire firewall configuration and the "6346" port. But still no results shown and limewire connection shows that theres a brick in front of the globe and theres no green signal. Here is my computer detail :

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) window xp service pack 2
2. What firewalls you have? window xp only
3. How much ram? 256mb
4. Hard Disk space available? 26gb
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) geez im not sure, its either cable or broadband, i use a cable modem tho
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Motorola; Model SB5100
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. limewire v. is 4.12.11 and java is 1.5.0_03
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Starhub
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. no
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. i had limewire ages ago and it worked out fine, but now problem arises
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes

Update your Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your old Java version before you install the new one.

Your modem doesn't have a firewall, recheck your Windows firewall config.

Starhub have caused problems for other people. They're known to shape bandwidth, maybe they're doing some blocking too? Try connecting at different times of day/night. You could also change ports & see if that helps...change LW's listening port to 64049, or something in the range of 49152 - 65535.

OK now i have already done all the required stuff, but still no search results and the globe still behind the wall of bricks and no green bar!

I have change the listening port as above tho.

Im running on version 4.12.11 and my java version is 1.6.0 now.

Should i delete all limewire files and reinstall or any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Are you sure there's no other firewall? You're not using a router as well as the modem? Is there any firewall provided by Starhub (some ISPs do include a firewall with their service)?
Seeing that firewall icon doesn't necessarily mean that you won't be able to connect. If it's a connection issue with Starhub, there's not much we can do except advise you to change ports or call Starhub & find out whether they're blocking p2p.

If you like, you could try reinstalling LW. Or try the Beta version of LW. There's no guarantee that it'll fix things, but give it a try if you like. If you do reinstall/install a new version, delete your preferences folder. See point 3 below (also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past). After that, you'll have to go back through LW's options & reset everything to the way you like it.
Fixes for LimeWire

Can you use any other p2p apps successfully?

Ive looked up Starhub & it seems if you keep changing ports, you can get running again for a while
change LW's listening port to 64049, or something in the range of 49152 - 65535.
Like Birdy said.

i did change the listening port but still cant, do i hv to open the listenning port in windows firewall?

mickjapa108 March 28th, 2007 06:07 AM

Just Turn it off temporary, Try a few different port No's till one works
Try manual port faward.
Both Listen on port & manual port faward, should be the same in Limewire
Tools/options/Firewall Config. Do not forget to Apply.
When one works you can then add that port to XP exeptions n turn it back on.
Oh!! Leave Limewire to settle after changing ports 15 mins or so
Good Luck
