LimeWire won't start

I have recently installed and updated to version 4.12.11 and when I click on the LimeWire icon to load the program, the program begins to load but never starts. I just get stuck on the little green box screen with the LimeWire logo. I have also tried to install the new 4.13 beta version as well, but the same thing happens. I had 4.12.6 installed and it worked fine, but now when I restore my computer to a previous time, LimeWire doesn't work anymore. Please help.

Sounds like things have become jumbled.
Do this it should fix it.
Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-6u1-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recormended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
http://www.limewire.com/
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
Peace

I did everything exactly as you said I should and it still didn't fix the problem. I just get the green box that has the limewire logo on it and it doesn't actually start the program.

System details - help us to help you Please.

Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

New problem with an experienced user. I was using LW 4.12.6 which was working fine up until I upgraded to 4.12.11. I have been using various versions of Limewire for at least 3 years and have never had this problem.

Yes. I have never had a firewall issue with Limewire in the past.
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?
XP Firewall is on

Like I said earlier, it is not a problem with my computer (I think). It seems that Limewire will just not run for some reason. The program starts and then either doesn't load or freezes. I have tried everthing I can think of including all the uninstalling. I wish I could go back to using the previous version of limewire that worked but when I restore my computer to a previous time, the old version no longer works. Please help me... this is very frustrating.

I believe Its the AOL security firewall , Can you disable it and re start your com
Just see, Im looking for more info

THISisMODERN April 4th, 2007 06:40 AM

The AOL firewall never affected the startup of the program or the use of the program. I will try turning off all my firewalls and seeing if that helps

THISisMODERN April 4th, 2007 06:50 AM

It seems that after I shut the AOL Firewall off, the program loaded up. So thatnks for that.... The only problem that I have is, am I going to be able to use Limewire with my AOL Firewall active? I never had a problem using it in the past, so why am I having this problem now? Please advise.
