Only 1 connection??? I can only get 1 connection open on 2.0 os Mac OS X. I have my setting to keep approx 6 connections open, but only 1 opens. I can manually add hosts. What gives??? Help, before I bail on LW!!! |
different OS, same problem Im running windows xp and have the same problem of only one connection no matter what i number i put in to connect to. This is maddening, I thought I would do my part and contribute my $6 to help keep limewire going only to get a version that is practically useless. |
I just installed LimeWare 2.0.4 to see what's been made on this network/client since I last checked it out some 9+ months ago. Not much it seems... on the contrary... I feel a lot more limited in both search and connection. I've been a happy user of eDonkey and surely will continue being that! After installing LimeWare 2.0.4 I too didn't get more than one connection to a Ultrapeer. I looked at the official web page for a server list - but nothing to find. Now my client has been online for several hours and I still only have 1 connection. My stats. page tells my I can see 3 hosts with a total of 1 GB online... WOW!!! I share 35+ GB myself and would be happy to share more if I saw this network coming to work! I was coming here to rant about my dislike of LimeWare not being able to download the same file from multiple sources - but I think I will save that story for some other time for now. My 2 cents... |
I too just downloaded 2.0.4 and can only get one connection. If I try to add more I will get a different connection but still only have a total of one connection. I am running Win2K. Also download speeds seem to be really slow (about 5 kb), when I use BearShare I routinely get downloads of 200-300 kb. Is this normal? I would continue to use BearShare but the product is a little unstable on Win2K. Any other good gnutella clients out there? |
You are only supposed to have one connection - to a superpeer who does all of your searching for you to allow the network to scale properly. Try this: Connect. Wait a minute. Search for something. If you don't get any results, disconnect from that superpeer and try again. Eventually, you will get to one with a *very* good connection and can find just about anything. Also, anyone running as a superpeer should raise that '2' at the bottom of the connections window to at least a '4'. |
Power Failure... While it may be true that you are only supposed to have one connection (though it says this nowhere that I have seen in any documentation), I used to always get upwards of 4 or 5 TB of files to search. Now I am in the low GBs, sometimes MBs! What gives? I want my old version of Limewire back. |
i too agree that after switching to 2.x, connection speed, number of hosts, number of incoming searches, and number of files found *drastically* were reduced. now i can't reinstall version 18c (mac) which was doing just fine. oh well, seems that no one is answering tech email either. and THIS after i "contributed" $6 to the cause... |
Yeah, thats the problem I have. Version 1.7 worked really well, I used to have access to 30TB of files until one day there was some kind of Java error that wouldn't go away...Bring Back the Old Version! |
The number of incoming searches in 2.x (when connected to an ultrapeer) will be lower by design. An ultrapeer will only forward queries to you that are more likely to match the files you are sharing instead of forwarding all queries. Sending fewer queries saves bandwidth. |
1 - 4 hosts I downloaded version 2.0.4 and installed it, but I also only get a max of 4 hosts. Right now, it has dropped to 1 host with 0 files shared. I then decided to pay the $6 and get 2.0.2 pro, but that isn't any better. Version 1.8c was so much better than this one. After searching these forums a bit, I found something that said 2.0 only works with other 2.0 clients. Why would anyone upgrade only to find they can't get any files? If I could find 1.8c again, I would dump 2.0 and install it. Also, the help pages on the Limewire site are for version 1.7! It is hard to find help with these problems when the help pages aren't even up to date with the previous version. |
LimeWire really screwed up with this new 2.0. It seems they have released it way before it was finished because not only am I also having the only one connection problem but there is no support for this on their web page. I'd flick off the people who released it with all these problems if I could. |
THE STATISTICS ARE WRONG STOP BITCHING ABOUT THEM People, the statistics you see when connected to an ultrapeer are wrong. So stop being ****ed off because you are relying on them. 1. Once you are connected to an ultrapeer, you drop all other connections. 2. The statistics reported back are considered broken once you are connected to an ultrapeer. a. The hosts number you get is believed to be the number of ultrapeers that peer is connected to. That isn't the total connections the peer has. It also has up to 50 other leaves that work just as you do. b. The 'files shared and size shared' are likewise screwed up. So STOP complaining about stuff that ISN'T really happening. PLEASE. The biggest scewup the developers did in this release wasn't code related; it was not documenting this proccess completely and shoving the info into every new user's face. But that isn't an excuse for people who post here to be complete twits, esp when this info has been repeated and repeated over and over again in these forums. I was confused too when I first started using this new version. But you know what? After about 5 minutes of reading these forums, I actually had a handle on what was happening. Instead of creating BS posts about how this version sucks which show exactly how little you really understand about what is going on. Try actually reading the forum first. |
boooo! Limewire 2.0.4 does not work well and certainly does not work better than previous versions. You get one connection. That is all. You rarely get any searches to your database so you can hardly share either. I get about 5% of the number of results I used to get with 1.7 and that just plain sucks. So quit saying that I am wrong and that Limewire really is worth the six bucks I paid for it because the way it looks now it isn't worth half that. Maybe for modem users it is but not for me with my high bandwidth connection. |
do you even bother to read the rest of the posts? or are you one of those people who are illiterate and yet still able to write in english? |
The point remains that searches turn up less hits, and downloads are slower, than on previous versions. I mean c'mon. The adware in 1.8c was BAD, but at least I got lots of hits when searching. Now there's no adware, and I get the warm happy feeling of supporting a worthy cause - only to feel screwed since I can't get the files I'm looking for. I don't give a rat's *** about how many Ultrapeers I see, or how many hosts are supposedly connected. What I care about is results - and I'm not getting them. - Gurm |
Well said Gurm. |
Agreed Hey - I agree. I sincerely question how many results you used to get as a ratio to the ones you get now. Tell you what, if you want to rely on the itty bitty stats you used to see, tell me your e-mail and I'll code you a quick visual basic application that just generates random numbers over 2000. I mean, in the earlier versions, who is to say whether the results were accurate back then? Isn't it possible the coders could have been faking them. Even if you do get an ultrapeer connection and it says "1 Host" then I invite you to do a search! You'll see plenty of results and if you look at the IP addresses of the files, you'll notice - WOW! More than 1 host! I too was confused and was ready to delete my copy of Limewire from my PC after reading these forums, but one standout post told me the real truth, it said that the stats were wrong. Take the hint! -- JM |
Having one connection wouldn't be an issue if you could connect to enough hosts through that connection and still see plenty of files. While it may be true that the statistics you can view in the UI are incorrect, then you should still able to get the same access to files that you could in the 1.7 client. This is not the case however. Personally, even though I spent the $6 for Pro, I'll be uninstalling it an reinstalling 1.7 until this inadequacy is addressed. The only real catch is that the 6 months of free upgrades is now on the clock - even though to really use the system, I can't have the software I purchased installed! |
One connection And another user with the same problem. I'm running 2 PC's on the same LAN line, and the one with version 1.7 returns 1079 doc's for the same query version 2 returns 18. Long live my one superpeer but it doesn't work. I want my 6 bucks back. |
I'm glad I finally found this forum. I'm sure limewire is tired of hearing all of the bitching. I certainly let them know how I feel about this new version. (Of course, with no response) I can see how I receive search results from more than one host when the connection shows I have 1 host connection. That did make the veins bulge less than before I realized it. What's weird is I see faster download speeds. Of course I'm on the Flintstones dial up modem, but to get halfway decent d/l speeds with the old version I had to disconnect from the network and let my downloads continue. Now I see almost no difference in the download speeds whether I'm connected or disconnected from the network. But I do notice that I get many many fewer results from searches. I'd be happier with the old version of limewire (if I could find it). Does anybody know where to get the old version? Anybody willing to do a file transfer via ICQ? I'm grateful to have found this forum before I decided to pay for the "pro" version. In my email to limewire I asked if I could maintain more than one connection with the paid for version. I'm still waiting for an answer, but it seems that it doesn't matter if you pay for it or not. You will still get an inferior number of connections... ultrapeer or not ultrapeer. |
Why don't you try <a href="http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7094">2.1.0</a>. It lets leaf nodes have multiple ultrapeer connections. |

4 Hosts - 96 Files - 248 MB Shared - This is absolute crap |
Unregistered: those statistics aren't accurate and haven't been for months. In leaf mode, we don't even show them. We hear that users want accurate "horizon counts", but that will have to wait until a new message is introduced to the protocol. |
Hey, I am pretty confused about LimeWire too. I have a cable modem and I should be getting much faster downloads. Could someone who knows whats going on here give us a detailed explination for whats up with LimeWire? Are they gonna fix it, or is there even anything wrong!?!?!? I am completely confused! And reading this thread didnt really help either.  |
Unregistered dude: Are you running the newest limewire (2.1.1) If so, then I think the benefits of only having one connection to an ultrapeer dissappear. It's like the old limewire, but you're connected to multiple ultrapeers. It soaks the bandwidth back up. My 2 cents! |
Keep going on the $0.02 (or the $6.00) and somebody will get rich. I too was concerned about the statistics, but, given the passion on the thread I thought I'd try to gather some data (novel Idea). Running 2 identical searches from two machines on the same lan, one running 2.0.2 Pro, and the other 1.6 I got similar numbers ( 264 on the new one to 358 on 1.6). I would have loved for the 2.0.2 version to be higher, but oh well. At least it was not a catastrophy. One more point. Us software design types need to realize that perception is reality. It would likely be a wise idea to change statistics window to somehow indicate the ultrapeer nature of the new network, even if it provides a sample multiplier to the new number to extrapolate what they might have been. Communications helps. Cheers |

Most likely your bandwidth is being used up by uploads and downloads. If that's not the case, perhaps you're an ultrapeer. You can check this by turning on the connections tab. If you don't want to be an ultrapeer, you can turn it off through Tools -> Options -> Speed. |
Here Here Limewire 2.0.whatever is crap. 1.7 got the files I wanted. If Anyone knows if/where version 1.7 can be downloaded from, I be sooooooooooo gratefull if they would let me know where it is. If you do, PLEASE email at pje100@hotmail.com Cheers Peeps =) |
ditto I'm with Gurm. Who cares what why UltraPeer or not? 2.1 isn't working!!!! Wrong stats Right stats??? How 'bout good ole tried and true results???? I can't find anything anymore and when I do 80% of the time I can't connect or download. Upload/download speeds make it seem as if I'm dialing in through AOL!!!!!!!!!!! I just uninstalled the stupid thing. |
Listen up and read my lips! I run 1.6b and 2.02 side by side switching from one to the other when my $6.00 dollar purchase runs dry I milk 1.6b. With 1.6b I can usually wait until I get about 1k connections and then can find most of what I am looking for. On 2.02 I just don't have that penetration into the networks. I know what I want is out there but I just can't get to it. So my view is that there is more work to be done. I will say this on 2.02 once I find what I want, if I can find it, it seems to have better transfer protocol because I get some super transfers for a modem connection. |
I agree with Gurm. I can't find anything on this new version (2.0.2 pro), and I'm on a T3 - I was using 1.6d before, and it was working just fine. |
You need to get 2.1.1. It's available in basic and PRO version. |
ok then... Would 2.1.1 be a beta version or a regular release? Also, does the newest beta work better than the full release? (better connections and such) I am currently using version 2.0.4 |
2.1.1 is a regular release now and connects better. The latest beta is 2.1.2 and the main difference is with bundling. <http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...7260#post22766> |
