If that doesn't help then delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 below.

There's no problem being connected as a leaf, providing you connect to good ultrapeers & not the crappy ones that have been causing problems for some people! You'll connect to ultrapeers to help you search & shield you from unnecessary traffic

Ultrapeers are people with a fast connection & whose FWs aren't firewalled. You connect to them & they in turn connect to other UPs & leafs...that's how your searches work. The network will connect you as an ultrapeer (if you have a fast enough connection & aren't firewalled) when there's the need.
