LimeWire Wont Connect

I am on a college campus which brings problems of its own when trying to connect to limewire, however my issue is this. Mostly everyone on my floor can connect to limewire, I am using a router of my own which is cloning my computers MAC Address so that I can use it without the school blocking the router and I have more control over what ports are being forwarded to where at least on my routers side. I can see that when Limewire is loaded the UPNP kicks in and automatically forwards the limewire ports to my pc which is GREAT! But I still cant connect to limewire for whatever reason. Any ideas?

Rather complex when you're trying to connect from a school. You say you have control over which ports are forwarded. But are you running both the router & LW via UPnP? If you port forwarded the router then LW should also be set for port forwarding.

Well every room has a router connected to a cat5 outlet in the wall so that all roommates can get online. The school tries to force you into using their wire router, but the network can be fooled by cloning the MAC address of any registered PC onto the router. This is what I have done, it allows for me to have a wireless connection in my room. The router has UPNP set to on and Limewire also is using UPNP. I just took a look at the connections tab on limewire and actually see nothing listed in there. Is this because all connections have failed or is it because the list of networks to connect to has somehow been lost?

Difficult to say. But if you're not seeing anything at all in the connections window then it could not be worse. It means it is totally failing in its attempts to connect to the gnutella network. Check how others there have theirs set up & see what the difference is.

Also, make sure you only have one active software firewall & that it is configured to allow LW.

I have reinstalled limewire and now see connections attempting to be made in the connections tab, however theres are still no connections being made. Everyone else here has just installed limewire and it works for them, nothing more to it being done. Only thing I can think of is that I have peergurdian installed on my computer, when enabled it blocks some connection as "fake servers". I have tried connecting with and without peergurdian enabled and still nothing. What I find even more strange is that when using another program I wont name here it connects to what it says is limewire servers without a problem...

Be patient. Did you look at the links above I gave you? Did you configure things? Do you see a brick wall?

Ah ok, make sure you use a different port to that of your roommate. Also make it different to Cabos. As for the router, ensure it is UPnP enabled. See the other link above for instructions.
Make sure your XP firewall is disabled if you are using McAfee. And make exception in McAfee firewall rules for LW.

Random Port

How do I have LimeWire use a random port other than 6346?

Lord of the Rings April 26th, 2007 09:42 AM

Random? Not sure. But you can preset it using settings in Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls
