Connection Issues Greetings, I am Captain Couch, and LimeWire has an issue connecting to the Gnutella network from my computer. Just to let you know, I have read around, but nothing that I have read has solved my problem. You see, here's my issue... I recently ran my subscription to Norton Antivius 2006 dry and decided to get rid of it, simply because it costs more money to resubscribe to virus lists than to buy the program itself. I downloaded AVG Free Edition after hearing good things about it. Well, everything seemed to be going smoothly, AVG Free updated regularly, there were no issues with AVG blocking programs. Then, I wanted to use LimeWire, and found that it would not connect to the Gnutella network like it normally did when I had Norton Antivirus installed. I suspected that my new antivirus software was the problem, so I read around and was told to turn the Resident Shield of AVG Free off. That solved nothing. I also find that there seems to be no way to allow exceptions for programs and ports in AVG Free. However, I'm still unsure of the cause of this problem. Could anybody please help me out? Thanks! |
Could you post your details. It may not be related to AVG. |

I can't remember ever hearing of AVG causing a problem with LW. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen:confused:. AVG's an anti virus and shouldn't be blocking ports. I tend to think it's your firewall. See: Firewall configuration instructions (click on link). Most routers have an internal nat firewall in them. If it doesn't support UPnP, you'll need to port forward it. Find you router here: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall More info here: Connection problems? Check here first! |
Well, thank you for your help. For some reason now, LimeWire will connect. Sometimes it will not, even when the circumstances are the exact same as the last time that it connected. However, my point being is that it will connect right now. Thank you! |
