Is it "rock or doom" for LimeWire?

I have been unable to connect for 4 days. The addict goes cold turkey (and is looking for a more reliable site). What is going on?

Find an pre 2.0 version of Limewire.. The new versions are worthless.. If someone has a pre 2.0 link to download please post..

But here's the snag in that theory.....

I never upgraded. I am disconnected, it appears, forever. I heard how dicey the upgrade was, and decided to love the one I'm with. I think I just got dumped. What a shame. Napster was The Man, but LimeWire was pretty decent most of the time. Audiogalaxy is, f.y.i., a gi-normous waste of time. Any help on this service would be greatly appreciated. Helloooo.........

The 2.x version is _not_ worthless. It is far more efficient to connect to a few UP hosts than to thousands of regular hosts. We just need more people using version 2.x and provide UP hosts.

Perhaps he should hve said
"almost worthless for actually finding something to download."

I have a moderate-sized, well edited library on LimeWire of about 400 great tunes. I'd be happy to share it, BUT I AM DISCONNECTED!!!! I'm going to research other options......."Patience may be virtuous, but it's also a stinkin' waste of time." Word.

greenwichgal, if you haven't looked at the connections section of the FAQ yet give it a try so the problem can be narrowed down somewhat.

I am grateful for your suggestion, efield, and acted upon it immediately. I couldn't download the old 1.8 version. The information is all good, but none of it works. I will not give up on LimeWire -- I have enjoyed it for a long time -- but I did find a service that is an adequate replacement, for the moment. Does anyone know if LimeWire is attempting to rectify this problem? I'm clearly not alone in this frustration.

It's not Limewire, it's something near you.

Limewire is simply a client on the Gnutella network. If it suddenly stopped working for you, then it's not Limewire that's the problem. It's something in your computer or network.

I would try downloading another Gnutella client and see if you still have a problem, if you do then it's likely your network.

If you don't, then it's likely that your Limewire install is foobar somewhere. Reinstall it.

There is a Jahmby!

I have successfully installed a 1.8 version onto my Compaq. It works very well. Thanks for all the suggestions offered. I believe I will listen to a little Rufus Wainwright and shout "Hallalujah!" Keep it always real. ;-) And thanks for all the help along the way.
