Can you tell me what Java you are running... |
What Worked for Me I had trouble for months (okay, I didn't make it a priority though) and tried everything I could find. I finally found this answer on a thread and it worked. It's quick and easy to try, so you might as well try this before you start uninstalling, deleting and all that other stuff. In windows (I have XP) Go to Start My Computer Go to c:\programs\program files\limewire then click (or double click) on the file that reads limewire.jar (and under it says executable jar file) Once I clicked on that, i went through the short setup language thing again and it worked fine!!!! Don't know what'll happen when i shut down again of course, so i'm cramming in some downloads now! I just made a shortcut of that file to my desktop. Oh ya, I heard it helps if you disable the "start limewire at startup option" from another thread. So I'm going to post this in a bunch of threads in case it helps anyone else. I got this advice from another thread so thank you to them!! |
I'm not sure where to look for the Java. Does "jre1.5.0_03" or "jre1.6.0_01" sound right? |
jre1.6.0_01...Sounds like the one...The only problem with the above solution is everytime you close LW down and then go to start it up again, you will have to do this process again... I would uninstall both of those Java's and get the JRE 5.11 using the offline installer...;) (5th one down) Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 |
It still didn't work. Is there anything else I can do? |
Mavis84...I'd say your problem lays with your ISP... 6_Pac has some good advice in this thread.... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-literate.html |
Hi, I am having trouble too with connecting. I have had Limewire and then Limewire Pro for 2 years and last week it just stopped connecting and remains on one bar. I have disabled my Firewall to check if that was the problem and it wasn't that and I have the newest Java Version Installed. When searching through the Limewire Website for help I tried to email them for support and was informed that the email I signed up to Limewire with was not a valid one and then got a message saying that if I bought and installed Limewire Pro over 6 months ago (which I did) then my subscription had expired which it hasn't has I paid for a 4 year subscription. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
You must of purchased from a scam site as the official Pro costs $18.88 with 6 months of free updates and support, onece your 6 months is up you can either keep the version of Pro you have or you can re-purchase at a discounted price and recieve another 6 months... So you see there is no 4 year subscription... With your connection problems could you supply these details please... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-help-you.html |
Connection problems Hi, thanks for your reply. I did not download Limewire from anywhere but the official website LimeWire . I paid about £60 for 4 years subscription, I don't know what that is in US $ and then after a short while I paided extra to upgrade to LimewirePro because of it being quicker to download. When I got it over 2 years ago there was various packages I could opt for and the four year one worked out the best value in the long run, thats why I got it. I don't use unofficial websites for any purpose. I don't know what the subscriptions are now as I have not bothered to look as I am not going to pay again for something I have already paid for. 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) - Windows Xp Home Edition 2. What firewalls you have? - McAfee/AOL 3. How much ram? - 512 MB 4. Hard Disk space available? - 58.1% 5. Connection type? Sorry to tell you but these scam sites are very good at making things look official...There has never been a subscription to Pro that is longer than 6 months and limewire basic has always been free...So you should never have been charged what you where charged... Membership? - **WARNING ** BEWARE** - Download p2p Clients ONLY Thru Official Sites get your $$$ BACK!!!(music members) Firstly I notice that you have 2 firewalls, you need to disable one of them as running 2 will not protect you more in fact it has the reverse effect.. I would suggest kepping the McAfee and disbling the entire AOL security package it is known to cause conflict with limewire and maybe a recent update has caused this to happen... This is the instructions to configuring limewire and McAfee correctly.. Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center The recent Java 6.1 has also been causing many conflicts, so try rolling back to the 5.11 JRE offline version....(4th down) Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 |
Limewire not connecting Hi, thanks again for your post regarding my Limewire problem. I have done all that you said, I've rolled back to the older version of Java, configured my McAfee (Which was configured right anyway), I've also removed LimewirePro and downloaded the free version and still all I get is 'connecting to network' and 1 bar at the bottom of the Limewire screen, it doesn't go more than 1 bar..when before it used to go turbo almost straight away. I've defragged, restored, checked my internet connection and everything thing else I can think of. I've not changed any settings on my computer so I'm baffled to why my Limewire just decided to stop working. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. |
