Ok here goes nothing!! again (LW won't open) Hi, Im a noob to this forum site but not a noob as far as LW is concerned. I have recently moved to S.C and am living in an apartment complex that is all connected through the same IP which is supposedly cable internet. I have no router ( any more) and no modem. My ethernet cable plugs directly into the wall and then into my pc. I have gotten on LW since moving but dl's were very slow. Now it won't do a thing..I recently installed AVG anti-virus protection and as far as I can find Im only running windows xp firewall which LW is allowed on. BUT!! when I read the thread(s) about checking for the port to be open..the webpage said it could not be found. Does this mean my ISP has it closed, can I open it? what should I do now? I have re-installed java and LW both to no avail. At first LW showed that I just couldn't connect to the network now it won't even bring LW up on my screen when I click on the icon...please help! TIA |
If you can't load the test page then something's blocking LW's listening port. It could be an ISP or it could be a firewall within your apartment complex's setup. You could try changing LW's listening port (tools > options > advanced > firewall config) to something in the range of 49152-65535. Try port 64049. If that's no good then try some other ports within that range. Otherwise you might have to speak to the complex's manager, or whoever is in charge of the internet there, & ask if they'll open a port for you so that LW can connect. Did you update your Java version before LW stopped opening? Try removing your current Java version, then download the offline installer for Java JRE 1.5 update 11. Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 Else, try the fixes in points 2, 3 & 5 of this thread & see if LW opens after that! Fixes for LimeWire |
