I don't know most of what that stuff is but I've had Limewire for a long time now and its always worked. Just recently shows these bars. Don't know how to fix it. |
Im also having the same problem as this. I have recently updated my LW version, and also upgraded my broadband from 2meg to 8meg, not sure which one may be the problem. 1. Windows XP 2. Windows Firewall, also running Avast Anti-virus but this has been no trouble before. 3. 512mb DDR400 4. Not sure? 5. Broadband 6. Intel 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem, Speedtouch 330 router 7. House 8. Limewire 4.12.11 Java 1.5.0_03 9. Homecall Broadband (Pipex) 10. Your test worked! 11. No 12. Used previous versions fine. 13. Yes, but have tried adding an exception to windows firewall Any help would be greatly apprieciated! |
think i figured out the roblem but dont know how 2 fix it. I read the thread "connection problems check here first" and it said that some cable modems can cause the trouble, i recently installed a new one but i dont understand becasue after that it didn't work and i am currently using my old one again unless some blocking from the new one is still in the network somehow. |

Me too..missing my Limewire! Hi all, I am having the same probs, have tried my way thru the many helpful step by steps and added/opened ports etc but ever since I installed (and then deleted) Norton's 2006 I can't get my limewire connected and I MISS it! I have answered the questions below, if anyone can stand to help with this same problem I would be forever grateful :aweof: Thanks! 1. OS version? Windows XP Home 2. What firewalls you have? Windows ones 3. How much ram? Not sure 4. Hard Disk space available? 17.1GB 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Dialup 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? None 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Apartment complex 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.12.11 J 1.5.0_03 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Optus 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: The page says 'Your test worked!'. 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Have had LW for years but since installed Nortons 2006 it wouldn't connect, have removed Nortons but problem persists 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? N/A |
By the sounds of that Norton might still be lurking around somewhere, did you use the Norton uninstaller...Do a search on your comp for anything related to Norton and Symantec...Did you also restart your computer once you uninstalled it... Try these fixes as well... Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....(4th one down) Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer... LimeWire: The Official Site for the Fastest File Sharing Program on the Planet If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder... Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should |
Thanks for your quick reply, I did use uninstall/restart but have done a search and deleted a few leftovers. Deleted the Java things I had and am now dl the one you've recommended and will restart and cross fingers! Cheers |
