Firewall Detected, no firewall running cannot download

Ok, this is seriously THE WORST PROBLEM i have ever had with limewire and it seems to be almost common now, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THESE FORUMS I CANNOT SEEM TO CONNECT TO LIMEWIRE..it says i have a firewall running but i dont and stays at the connecting status for hours...if it finally gains up enough power to get connection, it almost immeadiatly loses it and goes back to the first green bar. I had previously been using limewire for close to 1 and a half years and had over 300 songs downloaded....the problem drove me so mad that i completely made a new Windows XP account and i lost all of my songs, and cannot re download them to save my life.....Thanks limewire!:super:

how hard can it be to fix such a common problem?:bangh:

Hi Me.

How to use Manual Port faward

Universal Plug and Play may not be working properly Due to this update. "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)"
If this update is installed on your computer & UPnP is in use in Limewire
Try switching to Manual Port faward, using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port faward No, & listening port should be set at the same number
GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port faward.
If you are using a router to connect, that may also need configuring
Find your router listed here, Use this blue link. & dont forget to create a static IP first.

Your Servant,
Peace.

SWORNNME69 May 16th, 2007 12:46 PM

that sounds like a lot of work for something so common, and i am not using a router...WTF limewire

mickjapa108 May 17th, 2007 12:06 AM

Just this applies to you then.

Try switching to Manual Port faward, using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port faward No, & listening port should be set at the same number
GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port faward.

SWORNNME69 May 17th, 2007 04:16 PM

so like any number between that?

mickjapa108 May 18th, 2007 12:37 AM

Dont swear at me, & if thats not clear then Go get your Mummy to explain it to
You, Cos You should not be using the computer on your own.

SWORNNME69 June 2nd, 2007 06:17 PM

dude i said wtf...u gonna cry about it... im just frustrated cuz the damn thing doesnt work for half of the people that use it

mickjapa108 June 3rd, 2007 05:53 AM

SWORNNME69 Hi

We do not work for Limewire, We are all volunteers that give our free time to help solve the running problems that Limewire users have.

I have no need or desire to cry, I personally am tolerant, so the lack of respectful vocabulary on your part, simply highlights your lack of respect for others.
whatever forums you are used to frequenting, I have no idea, but here we also
have children, reading & posting, so for them, if not me, I ask you to choose your words with a modicum of consideration.
You Say.
"im just frustrated cuz the damn thing doesnt work for half of the people that use it"
So if your figures are correct, half the people Downloaded Limewire from the official site,Read the instructions, then configured their settings on their computer to run correctly with Limewire.
Some of the other half are new to computers, so they come here, then ask for advice on setup,
Then there are those that come here & blame us For them downloading L/W from a scam site for $35 & wonder why it dose not work.
So with that said.
If you would like our help, please continue with clear questions.

P.S... What version of java do you have (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
Peace.

SWORNNME69 June 4th, 2007 03:57 PM

allrite im sorry dude just frustrating cuz it is becoming SOOO popular now i have java version 1.6.0_01

mickjapa108 June 5th, 2007 01:33 AM

SWORNNME69 Hi
This should solve it, Also I would turn XP Firewall back on, that should not be a problem, If you delete permissions for Limewire in XP F/W Limewire will reapply
just in case things have become stale or bugy.
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-1.5.11) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one,
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.
Shout if you need help.
Peace.

SWORNNME69 June 18th, 2007 01:46 PM

k thanks man im gonna give it a try

SWORNNME69 June 18th, 2007 02:02 PM

u mean jre-1.5.12 rite?

mickjapa108 June 19th, 2007 01:56 AM

SWORNNME69 Hi man.

Yes now jre-1.5.12 is out & running fine, so choose that one.

If that don't fix things, I would do a complete clean sweep.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW
Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)

Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
LimeWire
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
Peace

tomfoolery June 19th, 2007 04:01 PM

I'm having a similar problem to Sworn, if not the same one. My connection strength is always full, I can search and plenty of results come up, but whenever I attempt to download, I always get "Need More Sources".

This must be related to a firewall, as the firewall status always shows the brick wall for me. I've done everything on this thread, including creating a static IP and configuring my router, and i just did the entire clean sweep as described in your most previous post (Mickjapa). So any other ideas on what my problem may be? Thanks a bunch, if you need any additional information please ask.

-TF

tomfoolery June 19th, 2007 04:09 PM

Ah, also, I've been checking a number of threads regarding this issue, but I decided to post on this one as your answers seem to be on the money and helpful. So on another note, I also did the bug report test shown at http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 and my result was:

Recieved incoming this session: false

According to Grandpa's post at http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...cted-slow.html this means I have a firewall problem for sure, hope this helps, later,

mickjapa108 June 20th, 2007 02:05 AM

Hi Tom
Received incoming this session: false....thats helpful
Sorry about the repeat Q's.

So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,

SWORNNME69 Hi.
I Can only say give your ISP SPEEDNET a ring, they are apparently shaping P2P traffic in the day time, click on this link for more info.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/272360-post101.html

Try connecting at other times of day.
Peace.

AnnieL July 27th, 2007 01:55 PM

Dear mickjapa108,

I am also having trouble connecting I've tried almost everything with the exception to "clean sweep". I currently have 1600 songs in my library and would really perfer not to lose them all, is the a way I can clean up and not lose all my songs?

mickjapa108 July 29th, 2007 03:34 AM

Hi Anniel.

Moving L/W Shared Folder
LimeWire's shared folder is the subject for attack by hackers n the like.
What I have done, & many others do, is make a folder with a name that has
no relation to sharing, or L/W (Henry's Groove) or something obscure. On another drive, then point L/W to it.
To do this Go to Start/My Computer, Double click a drive D,E,F,G or whatever, Right click, choose New folder, name it, Then with L/W closed, Go to L/W shared, cut & paste your files to the new folder.
Now! Open L/W Go, Tools/Options/Sharing/ADD,click on, look in, bar and navigate to your new folder. Highlight it and press select
Now! Open L/W Go, Tools/Options/Saving/Browse,click on, look in, bar and navigate to your new folder. Highlight it and press select.
You can make separate folders for Film,Music,Pic's n whatever you want,Just
ADD new & repete.
Peace.

AnnieL July 29th, 2007 02:17 PM

Thanks so much I really appreciate it!

For the last couple of days I have been unable to connect as well. I have never had any problems connectig before, and I have been a user of L/W for about 6 months. Can someone please help? Thanks

studmuffin02 August 4th, 2007 10:39 AM

I am having the same problem as Tom. I connect fine, often "Turbo Charged" and I pull up lots of searches but no matter what I try and dowload, be it movie, video or music, it will always do the "need more sources","connecting" loop and never dowload. Also, Limewire indicates I have a firewall but I have Windows Firewall turned off and uninstalled AVG. I have a router I'm connecting to wirelessly and I have the listen and manual ports (which are identical, 51821) forwarded in the router. I've also deleted the ultapeers in >connetions many times incase I'm getting fake files but that didn't help anything. I even upgraded to PRO but that didn't help anything. Heres my information:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP Pro SP2
2. What firewalls you have? Windows (Turned off)
3. How much ram? 1gb
4. Hard Disk space available? 2.49gb of 90gb
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.12.3, Java 1.5.0_06
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Cable One
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test worked!!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I also have uTorrent installed and running always. Tried closing uTorrent once but no change.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. First time
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I am port forwarding and UPnP is enabled.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...lies/smile.gif I had AVG but have uninstalled it.
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA
