LimeWire will not connect for me anymore I get the message: Limewire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire I recently moved but I dont really understand this because before I moved I was able to connect to LW and I have everything exactly setup how it was at my other house and now Im having problem. I have read just about all the threads on this and have tried everything but nothing has worked (Have disabled windows firewall and the router firewall), I even called my service provider and made sure they allowed p2p which they do. 1. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? test worked 11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem with experienced user 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes Thanks for any help possible |
Did you find an answer? I have the same problem. |

Kevin Hi. How to use Manual Port faward Universal Plug and Play may not be working properly Due to this update. "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" Removing this update is not Recomended & could make your computer vonarable to attack. If this update is installed on your computer & UPnP is in use in Limewire, Try switching to Manual Port faward, using port numbers between 45000 To 65000 Both Manual Port faward No, & listening port should be set at the same number In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port faward. This link will open in the settings page for port forwarding your router & don't forget to create a static IP first. PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall If you need help just shout |
Yes, I also tried this as well and it still will not connect. I tried to forward that port on my router as well as my windows firewall (as well as make limewire an exception). Anything else I can do?? |
Temporary remove "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" & restart your com Ann see what happens, This is just to see if its that Im here so get back |
That doesnt seem to work either......... I believe I had that security download before I moved when it was working fine so that might not be the problem |
Im just trying to rule things out, Put the update back when were dune Ok Can you ring your ISP & ask if they are shaping P2P traffic, to rule that out Anything you could think of may help, some feed back, or we may have to clean n start again. |
I specifically called up my service provider and asked them if they allow P2P sharing and things like that and they told me that they absolutley do. Everything else on my computer works (Explorer, AIM, ICQ, etc) so I dont know why limewire is acting up especially when this time last week i was able to use it (at my old house) |
I would start again with a clean sweep, java, L/W, search n delete the lot & reinstall, Delete n redo firewall settings, router configur for manual portfaward Follow these instructions exactly. So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions. Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs. Re BOOT Your computer NOW. Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/ & make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked) Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search. Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything) Re BOOT Your computer NOW. Now! Go to, START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs, now completely remove all versions of java. Re BOOT Your computer NOW. Now! Use this Link to get (jre-1.5.11) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 When Download is completed. Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java. Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer LimeWire If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others. Peace |
connection problems also Hi I have had this problem as well and re-installed twice. After reading these posts I installed crapcleaner and used it. Checked my java platform too, but before I did anything else, I searched and found all the limewire files in my computer. I was able to open limewire from there even though I couldn't open it from anywhere else. Also, it seems that if limewire is in the "tray" perhaps you can't open it from anywhere else. Anyway, I pursue because I really like Limewire! Roberta |
So did you get your limewire to finally connect? |
i was having connection problems as well, which started happening about a week ago after i've used limewire for many years without having any problems whatsoever. i did exactly what mick suggested. i uninstalled all my versions of java and limewire. i rebooted my computer. then i searched for any other files of limewire on my computer, i then deleted those, rebooted my computer once again. then i installed the offline version of the java (JDK5) and i installed limewire once again, and now it works! i am completely connected to the network and able to continue with my downloading needs. thanks for the help, mick. :) hope it works for you all as well. |
Just un-installed everything and re-installed everything and Im still in the same spot I was a few hours ago... not connecting to Limewire... Can I use limewire anymore or is it impossible? |
keven - i have done everythin you have done including being on the phone with my cable people for an hour connecting and unconnecting routers and calling friends. i also downloaded blobster, another music downloading program and it wont connect either and their help menu is telling me to do the same thing as limewire is, i think the government has taken over the internet and we cant download music anymore !!!...... |
Another thought.... Why does limewire say there is a firewall detected even after I turn off my windows firewall and router firewall?? Does anyone know how to get this program to work? This is getting to be ridiculous, I think Ive tried everything |
OK so ive pretty much tried everything on here twice and nothing has worked.... Starting to think my days on Limewire are over. I tried to use limewire on my laptop and the same thing is happening ( tries to connect but never actually does) |
I think it worked Yes, I connected, but I'm not sure what worked. I'm pretty sure it was clicking on limewire when it came up in my searched files. I read somewhere also that if it is in the tray, you might have to open it there. I haven't closed it yet, want to get as much done as I can before I do. did you try clicking on it in your tray or from a search? |
Another thing, it's almost as easy to uninstall it and install it again, it installs so fast |
Use the tray! Okay, so I closed Limewire, tried the desktop icon and it didn't work. so I clicked on the tiny icon in the "tray", that's the icons in the lower right hand corner of your computer, and that works. Hope it works for you guys. Roberta |
same thing hi i no i may be like a year late for this thread.. which is probably not that bad as in a year i suppose you may have found a solution to the problem.. i have the exact same problem as you do..did.. i feel as if i have tried absolutely everything to sort it out but my limewire simply will not conect! has anyone found a solution for this problem?? |
I resolved the issue by going to start and then msconfig .Then I clicked on start up tab and enabled all the start up items and that fixed the issue and I am sure it will for you also .:welcomeani: |
I just wanted to thank mickjapa108 for the repair thread.. I had nothing but problems for over a hour.. uninstall, delete, reinstall limewire with no results.. Searched google and found this thread.. followed his instructions to the T.. And now it is working perfect Thanks:super::yahoo: One question I did have is that at Java Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 There is like 10+ versions what is the version I really need.. The most basic one ? JDK 5.0 with Java EE JDK 5.0 Update 17 with NetBeans IDE 6.5 JDK 5.0 Update 17 Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 17J2SE 5.0 JDK Source Code I DL and used JDK 5.0 with Java EE Quote:

Hey Camshaft, that thread was an old thread. See below for the Latest Java Upgrade. :) Try uninstalling all versions of Java from add/remove programs and then use Crap Cleaner to clean the registry. Try updating to the latest version of Java here Java SE Downloads (First JRE 1.6.11)Useing the JRE Offline Installer. Hope this is what your looking for. :) |
We here in Carrigaline, Co.Cork Ireland are having the same problem. We have Windows Vista and this problem surfaces with a new windows update about six weeks ago. We are blue in the face from unistalling and reinstalling Limewire. Is this an industry wide fix to do away with us P2P users. |
