Most UK ISP's now limit p2p speeds during peak times. And some all the time. BTW Tiscali is a very large organisation & have smaller ISP's under their umbrella. ie: they own other ISP's also. Just like most big organisations they buy up as many as they can to keep growing. Tiscali also made a deal with a major ISP in USA. I can't recall which one. Tiscali is not only found in UK but other parts of Europe also. Perhaps a bit of investigation to find out if your ISP has a parent company & who it is.

Are you saying you've used Limewire for three years with no problem? If Limewire didn't change, it means that your ISP probably changed. It happens ALL THE TIME. Many ISPs are cracking down on p2p users. Have you taken the time to contact your ISP and ask them if they limit p2p users?

Hey Dan
Well I've downloaded the trial version of Bearshare and it works no problem, which makes it less likely it is a "bandwidth ISP" problem. Secondly the version of Limewire has changed based on the version number so I don't know what the upgrades have done to the capability of the program to connect. If it is a Sympatico problem, then Limewire seems like they haven't been able to figure out how to overcome it like Bearshare has. In which case it will be a major problem because Sympatico is one of the biggest services here in Canada.

Tried the connection this morning, still not working.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Hi
Sorry have been out all day. I am with Pipex and I am not afraid at all. Bear Share, Morpheus and WINMX are all working fine. I purposely downloaded them to try it out.
If anyone can shed any light on my ISP and whether they think they are to blame then great. I don't really care who is to blame I just want to share files.
I am not an expert but it seems a little odd that on here all these fixes were offered and no mention of ISPs until I said that I thought Limewire was at fault. Once they all fail lo and behold then it becomes and ISP prob!
It just sounds a bit like the old Dr joke that if they don't know what is wrong they say it is viral!
Kind regards
Susie

Susie, it is not LWire that stops you connecting between 5.00 and 10.00, it is your ISP if you read the link above it explains what is happening with most if not all service providers, there is too much demand and not enough bandwidth to go around!! Tiscali just happen to be the WORST.if you are lucky enough NOT to have downloaded enough yet to reach their limit, you will have almost unlimited ability to download, but BEWARE more than 1 gig per day for a week or two and BANG.youve had it !
Hope this helps,

I agree Susie, the bottom line is you try what you feel comfortable with. Some of the solutions posted might be great for people who are more intermediate to advanced level of knowledge, but if your other programs are working (which mine did) then it becomes less likely (not impossible mind you) that it is your ISP.

Mine only worked after deleting my preferences folder. Now how on God's green earth one is supposed to know this is beyond me. This obviously is an issue with Limewire's software program dating back to 2002. If they don't make their program user friendly and you have to tweak settings on your computer, then why bother?

Good luck to you. Mine IS working now, but wouldn't be surprised if it conked out for other reasons.

susie10137 Pipex are known to shape p2p as well, and a sure sign of this is throttling you at certain times of the day....RESEARCH is the answer...

Just type Pipex into the search tab there are heaps of threads about them...

Sorry if we haven't been able to help as of yet...if other programs are working for you, I suppose you should stick with them. Many people are perfectly happy with other programs. :D

If it is your ISP that is affecting your ability to successfully use Limewire, I have no answer as to why other p2p programs give you no trouble. Anyone else have any insight into this matter?

Cheers :)

Dan

Hey Dan, as I posted a message to wondering why earlier, thanks for being so helpful. We do not mean to sound so ungrateful for your help, we know you are trying your best. It is very nice to have a forum like this, if even not to 100% solve our problems, but sometimes to vent. Limewire does have its problems they need to address and not count on volunteers like yourself to solve everything.

Keep up the great work.
:rolleyes_2:
