Default incredibly frustrating (connection issues)

I'd been a user of Limewire Pro for 3 years now and was off of it for a few months. I'd never had any problems connecting and now I can't get connected (one bar thing). I tried reloading my Java version, checked my firewalls and exceptions and everything seems to be fine, but still can't connect.

I'm very frustrated, and figure now I'm writing off that 20 bucks for upgrading. I'm likely going to try another service. Sounds like others are having similar problems. It shouldn't be this difficult. We shouldn't have to do all these "techy" things in order to get a program to work.

I've run out of ideas, I've tried everything that is on this board...and nothing is working.

I agree with you completely. If you see my thread the response is to blame my ISP. Yeah right ! everyone has the same problem at the same times and try all the fixes, nothing works then they say it is your ISP! Er no it is Limewire!!!!

Default No reason for such technicalities

You're right...the little questionnaire that is posted in order to "help" us, is way too complicated for most users. We shouldn't have to be tweaking our settings and going in and deleting Java files in order for things to work. Its not the ISP, Susie, it might be Java, but after deleting my 6 version and reverting to the 5 version, it still isn't working. And forget about setting router settings, listening port settings, etc. These are under "advanced" for a reason. If we have to do all this, its not worth having the program IMO. I'm going to stick with this for another few days see if there is a fix on the Limewire side, if not, congrats Limewire, you've made 15 bucks off me, but no more.

Default Any Luck Yet????

Hi
How is your Limewire?
Mine is still ok at 8 am etc but still no evening luck at all.
You are correct about the technical side of things.
I did everything and it drove me mad and didn't work.
The people have been great that emailed from the support contact side of things but still haven't corrected it.
I am waiting to see if Pipex is Tiscali??? If so I hope someone can help me fix it.
I have used Limewire so little that I doubt I would raise any flags at my ISP but hey who knows.
Chin up.
Regards
Susie

Look, we were NOT targeting the moderators at all. We are incredibly frustrated with Limewire, and hope you can understand this. We get complex instructions that frankly requires an intermediate to advanced level of technical computer knowledge to figure out. Not everyone is as knowledgeable as the moderators on here. I mean to have to configure static IP addresses, port forwarding, rolling back installations, and then NONE of that working for us, when we can actually figure it out?

I apologize if you took offense. We are mad at Limewire, not you. We don't have solutions. I just happened on a 2002 post where the person from Limewire suggested we delete our preferences file and it worked for me. There is NO way as a user that we would even think about going into that file, much less deleting it.

And we get messages from other users/moderators that say "Why are you two afraid to give out our ISP providers"...now come on...that is going overboard.

I can understand your frustration...But just because your preference folder happend to get a corruption in it, is not Limewire's fault...Isp's are not Limewire's fault and you have no idea how many ISP's shape or totally block any type of p2p...
Firewalls on computer's are not limewire's fault, did you know that even your router can contain a firewall ?? Is that limewire's fault ??
Java updates that have bugs, is that Limewire's fault ??
Security that you have installed on your computer that stop's limewire from connecting, is that limewire's fault...

The list goes on and on...We do our best to make your configurations as simple to rectify as we can...

So you see it's not the limewire program that is the problem but all of the little issues on people's computers that stop limewire from working correctly...

Like I said, wondering, I didn't mean to take it out on you or the moderators, and I have apologized.

As for the preference issue, if it is a software problem that the software expert posted about in 2002, in my opinion, it IS a Limewire problem, after 5 years, I would think Limewire would have found a fix. After all, it is a Limewire problem, and should be posted on the main page under FAQ. I had to go onto a forum such as this in order for me to search through the many posts to find it. And therefore, yes it is Limewire's fault for not keeping paid users informed on their main webpage and finding a fix to a 5 year old problem.

As for the firewalls and Java, nobody knows what came first, the chicken or the egg. Again, I think it would be the right thing for Limewire to put this in their FAQs at least, and give potential members a heads up on the potential problems. But yes, its a business and that would scare off potential customers.

So again, sorry, our animosity is NOT directed at you or your fellow moderators. We do appreciate a service like this.

As per the other thread. I thought that the people on here were Limewire connected not just users.
I am really struggling with this. I love Limewire when it is working and do not want to go elsewhere. Also I have paid for this service.
I am confused about the ISP thing and in my ignorance! I never thought that they would be able to block PSP at certain times.
I have come on here completed forms and done everything suggested several times. It is very very frustrating. So if people are thinking I am ungrateful I apologise. I will jump through hoops if I need to, I just want Limewire to work when I get in on an evening and not have to be up at 4am to download.
Regards
Susie
