Still cant connect.... did the support guys forget about me?

Still not connecting to limewire. here are my specs once again...

1. OS version? Windows XP Home Edition
2. What firewalls you have? Windows
3. How much ram? 512
4. Hard Disk space available? over 1G
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys WRT54GS
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?town house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.12.11 and Java 1.0.5_11
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Atlantic Broadband
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Yes, sharing w/ a laptop
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem with experienced user
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

This is what I have tried....
I have tried using PPnP, tried to manually forward the port number, i tried deleting just .limewire and reopening, tried uninstalling the security update for windows, tried reinstalling java JDK 5_11, tried disabling all firewalls, tried unplugging router and connecting straight to modem, had a 45min conversation with my service provider to find out they DO allow P2P file sharing and are not the ones prohibiting my limewire connection, tried installing limewire on the laptop and it will not connect, and finally i tried starting all over completely from scratch by uninstalling and reinstalling limewire and java over again (twice) and so far nothing has worked.

Can someone PLEASE let me know what the heck I can do to get LW to connect? I am starting to get a little frustrated and it seems that the support guys kinda forgot about me last time I posted.

Thanks

Ok then lets start fresh....

We will start with the Port Forwarding...
These are your instructions and make sure you set up the static IP part as that is very important and if that goes wrong the whole thing will fail..
Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54GS

When you go to enter the new port numbers use this one 64049 and make sure it's the one you enter into all the boxes the instructions tell you to...This includes TCP and UDP...

Also enter that number into the manual port forward and listen box in limewire and select apply...

With your Java did you install the JRE 5.11 using the offline installer or did you use the JDK as that's what you have put in your notes of what you have tried...
Limewire needs the JRE version...;)

Let me know how you go after all of that and if you still cannot connect we will troubleshoot some more...:)

Yea, I meant to say JRE v5.11 but I forgot exactly what it was when I wrote it. I made a static IP adress and did the rest of the steps, still no luck in connecting to limewire.

What security are you using (ie Norton, MaCafee ect)...

Keven2002 May 21st, 2007 11:57 AM

I use McAfee virus scan. I do not have any other firewall besides windows though. I have had McAfee virus scan for the past 2 years with no trouble.

Can you follow these instructions and we'll see if this is the answer to your problems...

Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center

Keven2002 May 21st, 2007 12:18 PM

I dont have the McAfee security Center, I only have the McAfee Virus Scan.

Is there anything in that link that is remotely similar to your Virus app, because it could be that which is stopping you from connecting to limewire...
Make sure the AV is configured properly...

Keven2002 May 21st, 2007 12:28 PM

THe link you gave me is nothing close to my McAfee program. All I have is a virus scan, that way if the virus gets past my windows firewall it will be detected.

Any other ideas?

Yep a few more ...;)
Go to your add/remove programs and see if you have this update...
"Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)"

If you don't try these...
Right-click the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!)
