Sabrams is flying high
Default At Wits End...(Connection trouble) AOL

Alright, I'm pretty fed up with this problem. Here's the scoop, my mother bought LW Pro some time back. Apparently, it's been great to her for some time now. Now, for whatever reason, it stays stuck on the "Connecting" message. Her initial responce to this was to repurchase it. Needless to say, that didn't work. After that she called me (her son) into this mess. I've tried everything I can think of. I've updated to the most recent version. I pulled down all the firewalls, but the firewall icon won't disappear. I did one thing where I checked if the "session" was operating in LW and it said that it failed. I've followed some directions on here, like redoing the preferences. Besides that, I've done a few other things, but nothing has helped. I'm sorry that I'm sort of dumping this problem off, but I just don't know what else to do.

This comp. has:

XP and the most recent updates for it
McAffe
AOL 9.0 (Ick...)
The Windows Firewall and Anti-virus

Well, if you guys have any ideas, just shoot them this way. Thanks a ton!

Here's the specs:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) XP

2. What firewalls you have? McAfee and the normal Windows one

3. How much ram? Plenty (this isn't mine, so I have no idea. Trust me though, it's a lot)

4. Hard Disk space available? Same as above

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Not sure...

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Newest for both

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? IE and AOL (ick...)

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here:
http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says that it worked.

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem for a long time user.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? N/A

If you have the newest version of Java, you could try rolling back to the previous version. Some users are having trouble with the most recent version.

Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 (4th one down)

Good Luck

Dan

Also make sure you uninstall 6.1 from your add/remove programs first...

What kind of modem/router do you have? These can have internal firewalls.

I don't believe that this is the problem. For whatever reason, this thing just stopped working after an AOL update. I've gone back to see if AOL has put up some kind of wall, but it, apparently, hasn't.

Honestly, I have no idea what to do.

AOL's security has been known to cause problems with limewire connections...
Try disabling it or even uninstalling it and see if that get's you back up and running...

Whenever I tried to disable the AOL firewall it brought me back to a screen to buy it. Maybe I'm missing something there, but it just won't show the option to disable the darn thing.

Trust me, I'd love to get rid of AOL on here permanently. It's nothing but trouble.
