Connection issues

I have used lw for 3 yrs now and it worked great when i first got it. now it decides when it wants to work and whether it is behind a firewall or not. i rarely get a connection or any connection bars green in the bottom right hand corner.

my spec is:

OS; XP media centre
F/Walls; windows and Avast- but both are set to allow limewire
Ram; 1Gb
H/D Space; 124Gb
Connection; Wireless Broadband
W/Router; netgear
Connection;House
Limewire; 4.12.11 Java;1.6.0_01
Newish problem with kinda experienced user
And the firewall works when it feels like it...

If this probem could be sorted out i would be really really pleased

Thank you :rolleyes_2:

You shouldn't have two firewalls running, as they can interfere with each other. Who is your ISP?

Who is your internet service provider (ISP), i.e. what company do you pay for your internet?

Many ISPs shape the bandwidth of p2p users.

So...if you can't get it to work at all, you may want to switch your ISP. First, you could try port-forwarding your router. Select your model from this list. Then click on Limewire in the next list.

Good Luck

Hiya me agen just saying i did dat fing up dere but it hasnt worked i am still unable to connect

Check whether the problem is at your end. Just for the experiment, disable both XP & Avast firewalls. See if you can connect with LW. Give it plenty of time to try. If still no good, log into your Netgear & disable the NAT firewall (or set it to DMZ.) Try to see if it connects again. If not, then sounds like the problem might be your ISP blocking p2p programs or specifically LW.

Another option is to try this gnutella program: Phex to see if you have the same problems.

Actually, I can't take credit for that :D

That link comes from LOTR's post on ISPs that block or filter p2p (#8) :aweof:
