Connection Problems Problems getting the LimeWire or WireShare program connecting to the Gnutella network. (not about connecting to files, that is a Download/Upload Problems section issue.) Please supply system details as described in the forum rules.

Angry Connection problems - please can you help?

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP Home
2. What firewalls you have? Windows (disabled), Router (Disabled) and Bullguard (Allow Limewire by exception)
3. How much ram? 2Gb
4. Hard Disk space available? 350Gb+
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband (via cable)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem NTL:250 cable Modem, Router Belkin Wireless G plus Mimo
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.12.11 pro, Java 1.5.0_01
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Virgin Media (Ex NTL)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Test works
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Yes
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, but I've followed the instructions and put Limewire on my exceptions list
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP enabled

Virgin Media claim to not be blocking p2p, but as I've read elsewhere, this may not be strictly true!

Amazingly. it has just turned on! I didn't do anything! Maybe my call to my ISP made a difference!!

Your call could have made the difference. I think I've read some other threads with a similar result (definitely not the majority)

Have you tried connecting at different times of day, or are you just trying the program for the very first time today?

Yes, it was at another time of the day, but I have since gone online at the same time and it was fine.

Very frustrating! You seem to do all of the right things and it doesn't work, then for the shear hell of it you try again and it works!
