Old User - New Firewall Problems :-(

Hi everyone :)

Been using LimeWire for years and have it installed on desktop and laptop. Have this weekend re-installed Windoze on the desktop and LimeWire refuses to connect anymore. I've tried different settings in the 'Tools > options > advanced' page but still I have the brickwall in the bottom left of v4.12, even if I temporarily shutdown the firewalls. In answer to your queries:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) - Windoze XP just reinstalled and fuly updated I think.
2. What firewalls you have? - Zone Alarm (on) Windoze Firewall (off) have tried both 'off' and both are fully set to allow LimeWire access anyway but still no joy.
3. How much ram? - 2Gig
4. Hard Disk space available? - 200Gig
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) - broadband via D-Link DSL-G624T & DWL-G122 wireless system
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? - oh, as above
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? - house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. - Lw 4.12.11, Java 1.5.0_03
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange/etc
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It worked!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. - Yes connection shared with laptop, identical Wireless Adaptor, LW works fine on that.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. - New problem, never had a problem with LW before reinstalling XP
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? - Brick wall but no blue world icon

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? - pass on this, it just works lol!

Hope this helps? Best wishes!

Check your monthly bandwidth tally. See Orange here ::. Kitz - ISP Caps, FUPs and Prices .:: I have heard of some issues with Wanadoo before.

Quote: Max has 30GB FUP and heavy downloading discouraged during peak. Users reported being disconnected after 40GB

FUP = Fair Usage Policy. This is not a hard cap, but may allow the user some flexibility either by allowing off peak downloading, uploads not included in figures, or the flexibility to go over these caps on occasion, or a mix of any or all of these exceptions. Some FUPs are harsher than others and may in fact be a strict cap.

This may not be your problem but just pointing this out. Another member will probably be along to help you.

Hi thanks, for that :-)

I don't think that's the problem here, I can run LW on the laptop and connect and upload/download fine using the same account, whereas LW on the desktop just won't connect at all. It seems to be blocked by a firewall (it's saying it detects one anyway) even when I shutdown all the firewalls I have, it makes no difference.

I've run both the laptop and desktop LW's at the same time (could do that before no probs) and LW on the laptop still works great - I have run it today to look at the settings on there to see if it helps with my firewall problem, but I still can't get the desktop one to connect :bangh:

Hi dollymanson

Sounds like things have become jumbled. Also after doing this, make sure you use different port No's on laptop & desktop.
Create different Static IP's for both computers in router.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-1.5.11) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one,
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
LimeWire
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
Peace

HURRAH! :xirokrotima:

Thanks so much for that, I followed your instructions to the letter and now have connection to the internet! I've no idea why it wouldn't work before but am grateful that a 'clean install' has cured the problem.

I hope this helps others!

Best wishes!
