New user, can't connect...
 
Hi I've just install Limewire for the 1st time and can't seem to connect. My firewall is off, there is only 1 green bar and its saying 'Enabling Open Information Sharing for hours, I've been able to share files though.. Please help..........!:confused:

System detail are:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Winxp sp2
2. What firewalls you have? Norton
3. How much ram? 223Mb
4. Hard Disk space available? 12.4GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?Not sure BT Voyager 190
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have?4.12.11 Java 1.5.0_12
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? AOL
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Its says your test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st Try
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? No

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP enabled

You have 2 firewalls ... XP firewall & Norton. Both don't work well together at all ... they clash with each other & result in less security & other side effects. So choose one or the other & configure the one you leave active to allow LW full access. Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

AOL can be a difficult ISP to work with for p2p. Not my favourite topic lol :D They do have special security which does not like LW. So LW needs to be put on the safe list or if you don't use their extra security then no issue.

Connection sorted
 
Hi thanks for the tip, i've sorted out my connection I have 5 bars now. I unistalled my Norton Internet Security and changed it to McAFee instead, i also unistalled my current Limewire and downloaded the newest version Limewire Beta and it worked straight away........... Brilliant........... :super:
