Limewire won't connect

I have been using Limewire for years. I have not changed anything. It hangs on connecting, but never actually connects.
Can anyone help out.

1. OS version? Windows XP Pro
2. What firewalls you have? McAfee (but I have always had it and Limewire connected)
3. How much ram? Not sure
4. Hard Disk space available? 14.7 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Conexant D110 MDC V. 9x
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) 4.8.1
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? My test worked.
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem with an experienced user
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? No, never did
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? not sure
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall McAfee, have always use this and it worked. I disabled it and still wouldn't connect.

Based on what I read in another thread, I upgraded Limewire to 4.12.11 and I uninstalled Java and installed the one recommended. Jave Version is now 1.5.0_12. I still cannot connect.

And I see a brick wall in front of the blue icon.

Just double check that your XP firewall is off & that your McAfee is configured to allow LW.
Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center

Try this version of Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one.
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

The modem details you've given sound like an internal modem...do you use any external modem or router (just checking)?

See if the LW Beta version connects. You can download the Beta from the usual LW download page.
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

If all that fails, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either or both locations...delete both if you have both).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

I changed the Java version to 5 Update 11 and deleted the limewire folder. Now it is working. Thanks!

Same problem, but won't fix

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? I have always used McAfee and it worked. I disabled it and still wouldn't connect. I allowed full access to limewire

I've deleted the .limewire folder and I've disabled limewire auto start-up, I've shut down McAfee and Windows firewall and doesn't work. Limewire has out-going and in-going ports open. I've deleted Java and re-installed,

I'm not sure what else I could try. Except calling road runner to see if they can fix my connection. but I don't think that's it. I don't know what to do. It's been my 3rd day trying to figure this out on my own. Now I need help.

I guess your router's a Dynex? Can you find the model number?

4.8.1 doesn't have the firewall icon. To find out whether there's a firewall interfering, in LW go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'. Is it true or false?

Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. change LW's listening port to 64049, or try some in the range of 49152 - 65535. Click Apply to save the change.

You've tried the obvious fixes...if changing ports doesn't help, have a read through this thread & see whether you have this windows update. If your router isn't using UPnP (ie UPnP enabled within the router & the UPnP option selected within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config) then AFAIK it won't apply to you.

The model # is DX-E401
recieved incoming this session = false
changed to 64039
and I've also read the link you've posted and changed my IP address to static one.
I think it might be the router but I don't know how to fix it or even access it.
