Connects to network, but downloads are always 'connecting'

Hey all,

I have a problem with using limewire at the moment. When I open it, it connectecs to the network with and excellent connection, but when I try to download anything, it will always say 'connecting' no matter what it is. There are plenty of sources, and my son has downloade some of the same stuff to his computer not 5 mins before hand (he did this to see if the file was bogus, or if it's just my computer). I am using Limwire 4.13.

I know that someone has already asked pretty much the exact same question, but from reading through that post, everyone has gone way off track :P. Can you please not talk about magnet links or bitzi or anything like that, I just need to know why I can no longer get a file to connect and start downloading.

If any more information is required, please let me know.

Thanks

Look up fakes. The reason you are getting that problem is the network has been spammed with fake files you simply can not download. There is advice about how to get around it, if you wish to look carefully. Check the stickies in the Download/Upload problems section. ;) Your issue is a download problem, not a connection to network issue. :)

thanks for the reply LOTR. I already know about those fakes and stuff, so I already don't download those files, but even trying to download the fakes will work, so that's not the issue.

Any more info is very welcome!!

That's what we're trying to tell you, if you see a file trying to connect for ages & ages, then chances are it is a fake. It's almost as though the file is there, but they have upload slots set to zero. So there's no chance of downloading it. Sure it appears in download window but that's all, you'll never actually download it if it is the classic fake file syndrome.

Best advice is to well you know about bitzi, but other than that, keep trying others till you find one that does work. And keep searching. If you are sure one of these is fake, you can try banning their ip. Though chances are they use dynamic ip's. But in the short term it will stop that particular one showing up in results from that specific source.

Trying slightly different search terms or search technique can sometimes be of help to find genuine files. :)
