I guess you work with Java to use the Development kit. That's normally a bit oversized for most people's needs.

Chances are you haven't set the XP firewall up to be configured to allow LW full access; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

If still no good, then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

NetCom devices nowadays come with & already enabled for UPnP. However, it depends how old your model is. If still connection problems -> You may need to do a port forwarding for LW; find your model here PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall but remember setting up a static ip is the first and most important thing to do in this process.

You could try port forwarding for your Netcomm. I've got a Netcomm NB9W & have never bothered with using UPnP, just port forwarded. Give it a try.
The instructions for your router are here.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

Don't forget to set up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within a router must all be the same number.

Also answered here earlier...see posts #103 onwards.

Once you've checked your firewall is configured to allow LW...

Try the port forwarding, if it's still stuffed try downloading the latest LW stable release, or there's a Beta version as well.
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire
Do you have the installer for 4.8.1? If you still have that saved, you won't lose that version if you install another LW (LW automatically uninstalls the old version when you install a new version...so unless you have the installer your 4.8.1 would be gone). I've hosted a 4.8.1 basic, so you could always redownload it if you needed to;)

You could also try changing ports. In LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 > apply > ok. Restart LW & see if it connects.

Just don't change your Java version:rofl:
