System details - help us to help you Please.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

Cut n paste Just these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

1. what OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) ?

5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6.Modem what brand name & model numbers ?
7.Router brand name & model numbers ?
8. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accommodation, work, etc.) ?

18. Are you using Manual Port faward in LimeWire OR UPnP ?
You can check HERE, IN LimeWire Go, Tools/options/advanced/firewall Config

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

First update your java
GO/START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,

Turn Vista firewall off, or Norton, its your choice two firewalls running will conflict.
Norton would need completely uninstalling so its your choice.
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now just check this.
Port Forwarding for the Norton Internet Security 2007
If you feel that your Norton isn't configured properly with Limewire,
Click on this Blue link...it will help you Configure it.
Port Forwarding for the Norton Internet Security 2007
Peace.

1. Not good using 2 software firewalls. Both Norton & Windows firewalls DO clash & cause problems, and in fact result in less security, not more. So choose one or the other & disable the other. Then configure the one you want to use; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) _ OR _ User Cant Connect - LimeWire _ OR _ Configuring Norton Internet Security

2. In my experience most Webstar routers need port forwarding. However perhaps your model is very new & has reliable UPnP support (or perhaps the UPnP is not reliable). If not, then find your model or similar here & forward a port: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall. Most important step in forwarding a port in a router is the very first one, setting up a static ip.

Well a bit slow .. take your choice of advices lmao
