OK Mark
You can start by updating your java.
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Click on this blue link it will open on the page you need to configure your router to work with Limewire. OH!! Dont forget to set a static IP
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

Right Now
McAfee Security Center Port Forwarding to run with Limewire.

Just double check that your XP firewall is off & that your McAfee is configured to allow LW.
Click on this Blue link, it will open on the page you need.
Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
Peace

it wont let me uninstall the previous java versions
i have "update 1" and "update 2"
1 wont let me uninstall because it cant find some msi file in my documents and settings
2 says you already have that version installed or something

so yea, cant delete either..

also, i dont have security center.. just the plain antivirus. was a free one from my school.

mickjapa108 June 15th, 2007 06:55 AM

completely remove all versions of java First !!

Ok
Try rebooting in safe mode to delete, OR Download CC cleaner, Update it first
then run the cleaner, Delete what it finds.
This next bit, DON'T change any of the settings,(thats only for advanced)
Now click on the Issues button, then scan for issues, Its best to backup changes,As you are prompted to, so they can be reversed if needed.
Now Click on tools & run the uninstaller for update 1 & 2,
Close CC cleaner, then use the link given to update java.

P.S... Sorry forgot to leave the link to CC cleaner,Here it is

(a) Windows XP comes with its own firewall. Did you disable it or configure it to allow LW full access? Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

(b) Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

(c) THe WRT54G was a "lemon" model which had firmware problems but Linksys never fixed it. There are fixes for the firmware but you'd need to be confident yourself of doing it. Otherwise port forwarding is the next best option, though it might still be a little unreliable. But the WRT54G definitely does not work well in UPnP mode; totally unreliable.

(d) You are connecting cable via an apartment. Are you sure the apartment itself doesn't have a firewall? Some do. Check with owners or whichever appropriate sources to find out.

mardvark Hi
Give us some details & lets see what we can do:Smilywais:
System details - help us to help you Please.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

Cut n paste Just these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

1. what OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) ?

5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6.Modem what brand name & model numbers ?
7.Router brand name & model numbers ?
8. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accommodation, work, etc.) ?
9. What version,LimeWire & Java, are you using. Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?

18. Are you using Manual Port faward in LimeWire OR UPnP ?
You can check HERE, IN LimeWire Go, Tools/options/advanced/firewall Config

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

Hi mickjapa108,

I have 4 brown connectivity bars - not green or blue. Used to be able to connect with no problems. Vaguely remember a JAVA upgrade a week or two ago. Question: Why all of a sudden are so many users having problems with LimeWire connectivity? What happened recently that caused this phenomenon? I was cruising along for 2 years w/o any issues and now this. Port forwarding, static IP address configurations, etc., scare most people - myself included. If I screw up my wife's wireless network, I am -- well you know the answer to that.
Peace out.

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys WRT54G router

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. NO
