Can't get limewire to work shows that it is loading then shuts off. Please help!

Can't get limewire to work shows that it is loading then shuts off. It also magnifies screen whenever I try to get into it.:bangh:

Lord of the Rings June 16th, 2007 11:23 PM

I think the size is either due to graphic card settings or system font settings.

1. Uninstall all versions of Java using your add/remove control panel then reinstall using the "Offline" Java installer: Download Java software from Sun Microsystems

2. Try options listed here Fixes for Limewire

3. If still no good, please supply us a few more details: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link)

badass June 18th, 2007 01:15 AM

1. OS version? Windows xp
2. What firewalls you have? windows xp

4. Hard Disk space available? don't know

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? linksys
7. Where are you trying to connect from? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.12.11 right java
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? cable Cox ?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. no
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. new problem
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? don't know
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall none except xp's
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). U.S.

When loading screen is brought up it is not magnified anymore but makes hole screen diluted and loads but won't open up. Thanks for replying.:aweof:

Lord of the Rings June 18th, 2007 01:29 AM

Which options did you try? Did you try deleting prefs folder?
You could try stepping back to Java 1.5; ie: uninstalling java you have & re-install from Java 1.5 (take the JRE).

I am still wondering whether it's a graphic card issue. Perhaps a clash between a graph card driver & Java. Otherwise, a setting such as 3D or game setting.

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

badass June 18th, 2007 01:45 AM

I deleted prefs file and put Java 1.5 on. Don't have graphics card and computer is not set up for games. I can't get into limewire to be able to change anything.

Lord of the Rings June 18th, 2007 01:51 AM

Did you try changing compatibility mode? Try both win 2k & win NT

badass June 18th, 2007 02:28 AM

how?:letmesee:

Lord of the Rings June 18th, 2007 02:29 AM

Check the link I gave above (#2 in post 2) about fixes for LW. You need to select the actual program, not the shortcut. ;)

badass June 18th, 2007 03:02 AM

I tried it didnt work.

mickjapa108 June 18th, 2007 05:43 AM

badass June 18th, 2007 02:29 PM

mickjapa108 June 19th, 2007 01:32 AM

Hi badass.

Start from scratch with a clean sweep, Then portfaward your router.

Sounds like things have become jumbled.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW
Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)

Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
LimeWire

Now badass
Try switching to Manual Port forward using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port forward No, & listening port should be set at the same number
In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port forward.

Then Port forward your router,

Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54G
Follow this link it will open on the page you need to PortForward your router.
Use this blue link. & don't forget to create a static IP first, as instructed , & click apply after changing each setting.

Still can't get into limewire. Screen is still diluted when loading.

badass June 19th, 2007 01:09 PM

I am in different timezone so it may take me a while to reply. Sorry.

mickjapa108 June 20th, 2007 01:38 AM

You are just not telling us whats happening, Did you follow my instructions on clean install exactly ?
were there any problems ?
Did you manage to portfaward your router ?

Try giving Cox a ring

6. Cox is known to filter p2p. Apparently they don't apply it to all people within any area, but more-so individuals.
click on this blue link it will explain.

I followed your instructions on install exactly and when it was done loading it to my computer, I opened it up and the limewire setup came up the screen became diluted. I had no problems downloading everything. When I finished limewire setup the loading screen came up and it didn't open up limewire it just went back to the normal un-diluted screen. limewire didn't show up in my system tray. I didn't know whether I should port forward it or not.

Bwinks June 22nd, 2007 05:13 PM

Same Problem

I've been using limewire for 2 years now with no problem until recently. The problem Badass is describing is EXACTLY like mine. I have followed your instructions too and still no luck.

mickjapa108 June 23rd, 2007 04:06 AM

Hi Badass.
You say.
"the screen became diluted", I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by this.
Can you explain for us, thanks.

What happened when you phoned your ISP Cox ?

Last point you really should Port forward your router, they give step by step instructions.

Try switching to Manual Port forward using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port forward No, & listening port should be set at the same number
In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port forward.

Follow this link it will open on the page you need to PortForward your router.
Use this blue link. & don't forget to create a static IP first, as instructed , & click apply after changing each setting.

Can't get into limewire to be able to do that. Diluted because the screen icons and task bar changed color to lighter blue and the recycle bin changed apperence completly.
