Default Enabling Open Information Sharing???? (LW not connected)

I just installed limewire and once I try to search I get the "enabling open information sharing" message. I leave the program running in hopes that it'll eventually pull something up but so far-no luck. I'm not too computer savvy and hope someone out there can help.

You have to tell the program what to search for, it is not going to do any kind of search just because it is installed.

What you have done is the equivalent of installing a word processor and expecting it to write a letter for you without you doing anything.

Computer savvy or not, you are suppose to do something to get a reaction.

PS. If I have misinterpreted your posting then please correct me if not then I suggest you download and read the LW manual.

Default I have requested it to search!

I have tried searching for audio clips if that's what you mean, but I get the message that LW is currently connecting to the internet and won't return many results until it is fully connected-how long does that take? It's been running all day. I have a dsl modem.

2. What firewalls you have? Sonicwall/Windows Firewall
3. How much ram? 76.3GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 66.4 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable DSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem: Speedstream 5200 Model: 060-E240-004 Router: Sonicwall-T2 170 10 Node Model: APL 11-029
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Work
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.12.11 Java 1.5.0_11
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Windstream
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Office network
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st try

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Don't Know
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Norton Anti-virus/Sonicwall
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). United States

Also when I check my connections, there are 9 but they never connect for more than a few seconds. I've disabled the firewalls that I can find, but that's not helping. I've added LW as an accepted program and enabled UPnP.

It's probably not a good idea to disable the firewalls at your workplace. You could end up getting in trouble if anything happens. Instead, you should configure the firewalls to allow Limewire access to the internet. It's best to have only one firewall active, as multiple firewalls can actually result in less security. However, as you are at work, I can't recommend that you meddle with things.

You could try port-forwarding your router:

Port Forwarding for the Sonicwall TZ-170

Windstream could be using a firewall...see this link:

Good Luck

Dan

I agree with Muhctekdano and, as you are at work, cannot advise you to interfere with your office equipment, for obvious reasons.

I would suggest that you have a friendly chat with your IT security person to see if he or she can do anything for you.

To be honest, that is the safest way for you to get what you want without compromising your workplace's security.
