Default Still having probs...

searched all the faqs, tech supoport docs, this forum... but I have interesting problem.. Not only does Limewire not connect, but terminates my internet connection. I 'm connected via ethernet to my dad's machine thought a Belkin wireless router into a Westell dsl modem with Verizon as the ISP. Would Verizon be blocking the network? This comp is a compaq presario Intel Celeron with windows XP SP2. everytime I try to connec tot Limewire my connection terminates and I have to go to the other room and reset the modem and the wireless router. any help?

In my experience, the Westell devices need to be port forwarded due their lack of or unreliable UPnP support. As for Belkin, I use one on a mac & strangely the firmware conflicts with my firewall. But problem solved for me, I don't think this applies to windows I don't know.

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

2. What firewalls you have? Westell modem, Belkin router.

3. How much ram? Intel Celeron 2.80 ghz 504 MB RAM

4. Hard Disk space available?

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Westell Wirespeed modem, Belkin wireless G wireless router.

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.2

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?Verizon

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Test worked


11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. ethernet to belkin router to westell moden on father's machin in other room


12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Not new user, but not experienced


13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? don't know how to port forward the westell modem

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall windows SP2 with firewall

16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). Maine USA
