Stuck at "loading user interface" (basic version) I've been using the Limewire 4.12.11 (basic, not PRO) for a very long time, however for a couple of days now, when I try to start up Limewire, it always gets to "loading user interface" and then stops there. By "stops", I mean it looks as if it is loading that part but it stays there forever. I did not make any changes to my firewall (which is zonealarm [not zonealarm pro]), nor have I made any changes to my AVG anti-virus system. I have looked through the connection problems thread, but nothing seems to work. When it's stopped there, my computer gets very laggy and it's figuratively impossible to do anything. How could I fix this? Note: I have tried re-installing Limewire AND have tried shutting off my firewall - both unsuccessful. 1. OS version? Windowx XP 2. What firewalls you have? Zonealarm basic 3. How much ram? Don't have a clue 4. Hard Disk space available? Don't have a clue, but more than enough 5. Connection type? DSL 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Gateway 7. Where are you trying to connect from? House. 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire V4.12.11, latest version of Java 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? I don't have a clue 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says in bold, "Your test worked!!!" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? I don't know, but I have two other computers currently in this household 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? New problem with experience user. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? I can't even get into LW 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Port forwarding, although only ports for Warcraft III are forwarded as far as I know. 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? AVG anti-virus, Ad-aware SE Personal, Spybot Search & Destroy. 16. What country are you living in? USA. |
Warrax For an experienced user there is an awful lot of basic information that you do not know about, still your problem sounds like you've picked up some sort of virus which has probably corrupted how LW works. I would do the following: 1) Do an on-line virus scan to see if you have been infected by anything, there are various AV scanners such as Symantec Security, Trend Micro HouseCall, Kaspersky Lab, etc. just google and choose one. 2) Whether you find a virus or not, uninstall and delete your current copy of LW and Java, make sure that you get all the directories and all the files. And if possible, see if you can at the registry settings with a registry cleaner. 3) Defrag your HD, windows XP has a built in disk defragmenter which you will in find in Accessories >> System Tools. 4) Install java, I would suggest you go for V1.5. 5) Install Limewire Basic. 6) Run Limewire Basic. If this fails then I suggest you wrack your brain for something else you may have done or installed. Shark Chum PS. I forgot to mention that you should also download and run AVG Anti-Spyware, this process should come after No. 2 |
