Connection problems

Hi my name is tim and have never even been on a forum before. I have the same problem as daboatwright but I have mellenium. No laughing ha! My world is behind the firewall and I have a cox modem, a linksys wgt54gs wireless router and a vonage set up. I started having problems connecting but it would eventually connect with the free version and I have made no changes but things have gotten worse over the last many months. So I thought I would get the pro version to help that and now it won't connect at all. I also moved my shared files to an external hard drive but have made it available for sharing. I'm just stuck. I am a working musician and really need to use this. If this is in the wrong place please forward this to someone until I learn what I'm doing and where to post my questions
Thanks

Windows Millenium pc, Cox cable Modem, a Vonage device, Linksys Router, The UPnP is enabled on the lynksys router, The system did work except it started getting very slow at linking up to the connection so it did work and degraded in the past many month. the firewall is in front of the world on the connection area, and the connection bars aren't lit at all green. I have no connection. The 6346 test I saw on other posts and checked said good. Mcafee virus but it only does the scan no firewall etc... I don't know if I have anything but the windows standard millenium firewall or maybe none at all? JAVA version 1.5.0 2004 sun micro systems, java plug in java(tm)2 runtime environment standard edition 1.3.1 02 default vertual machine version 1.3.1 02-bo2 enabled java plug in checked and recycle classreloader checkedwhat ever that is I have? Ram is 383mb ram and 110gig hard drive plus external 250gig, 32 bit system, house, no sharing other than the router, In the USA. Ive tried a bunch of things but still have the brick wall in front of the world. I'm sure thats probably it but don't know anything really about computers but can manipulate things when I'm told how no problem. I have tried diabling mcafee etc.. also with no effect.

I thought that it might be because I had a free version of LW that it would be cleared up if I got the Pro version so I bought it, but it didn't help. My son said he got on about 2 weeks ago and had to wait about 15 mi9n or so but was ablew to down load music he needed. I had moved my shared folder to an external hard drive and have now made it as well as my c drive share folder available to the LW system. All was working but was slow then it became stopped woprking for me even before I got LW pro.

Hope this helps someone tell me what to do. Have to go get ready for a gig but will be getting on to check for help after midnight. Hope I can get some ideas to try when I get home. Come see us play if you are in the phoenix area, see link below for schedule and to listen to the duo and trio

Thanks

Find out whether you're using a software firewall (Win ME doesn't have one built in):D If you are, you'll need to make sure it's configured to allow LW. If you're not using a software firewall, I'd recommend that you get one! There are some good, free ones around.

A Google search will bring up more results.

Try this version of Java. Use the JRE offline installer & reomve your current Java version before you install this one.

If that doesn't help, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).

This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Your router...well, who knows...can't find any info about that model:blink: It doesn't even show up on the Linksys site. I'm guessing it has a firewall. Have a look at the list of Linksys routers here, you might be able to find one with the same setup pages as yours. Or, check your manual to see if there's any info about port forwarding (to get rid of the firewall icon).
