Will not connect

Greetings:
In my attempt to use Limewire on my Insightbb cable, I am unable to
do so. With both the antivirus shut down, and the firewall shut down
Limewire still shows I have a firewall, and I still can get no connection.
Previously, with the older version of Limewire, and on a dial-up ISP,
everything worked with this same system.

What next?

2. What firewalls you have? - Zone Alarm (Shut off)

9. Who is your ISP provider? Insightbb
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? - Test Worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? - No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. - New problem on new ISP - Limewire used successfully previously.

Sorry nobody was able to help you earlier. But to be honest with you, your ISP is reknown for blocking p2p programs. See ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire & also this one A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions.

Chances are they have detected you using LW & have put the brakes on. :(

You could try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) to see if it makes any difference.

"Chances are they have detected you using LW & have put the brakes on. :("

Unless it is a total block for all subscribers, there is no way they could
have detected me using Limewire. I have not used Limewire since previous
to Insightbb cable. Further, Limewire was not installed on the internal HD
of this PC, and the external was merely connected and turned on to access
the Limewire program.
I then went to the Limewire website to download and install the newest
upgrade on that external drive. When the new Limewire did
not work, I turned off that drive, and reinstalled my old version of 4.2.3 on
another external drive - Still not my C: drive. It didn't work either. I finally
put the 4.2.3 on C: with the same results. That makes two external drives
that were not connected to the PC prior to my attempt, and no version of
Limewire was on the PC since the transition to Insight cable.

"You could try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here:"

Nowhere found in either of the three HD's is any folder of Limewire
preferences. Nada! And, yes, hidden files are viewable. Limewire, by
default installs in Program Files. There is nothing remotely resembling
any Limewire folder outside of the one in Program Files, and no other
files listed in C:, or Program Files, Windows, or Windows System that
have any name resembling LW, Limewire, or the words linked to LW
of Data, Documents, or Preferences.

Is it possible that in the old 98SE version that another name, or
number listing is used in the Limewire folder, or some other location?

Of course, I would imagine that installing either of the versions as
a new install on a HD that previously did not have Limewire, this issue
would not be a problem, and as such would not be necessary as it
would have new prefs, and settings.

What say on this?

For windows 98 I think your .limewire folder is in "C:\My Documents"
It may be called either
limewire _ or _ .limewire

You are correct in that it is called 'My Documents' in Win98, and 98SE.
However, with 148 files, and nine folders in the 'My Documents' folder
there is no .Limewire, or Limewire, or anything even remotely connected
to Limewire. It just is totally non-existent in this, or any other folder in
my C:, or either of the two other HD's in which I now have installed the
Limewire program. This includes both the 4.2.3, and the 4.12.14.

Is there any other possible name, or location for such a folder/file?
(It may be tedious to read through each and every folder, and file
of three hard drives, but I have done so, and even used the 'Find'
tool without result in each of the drives.)

PS: I did give all my system info in my original post. You must have
confused my post with the added persons request for help.

Is LW installed on your present system ... it sounds like only onto external drives. Any issue with installing onto the c drive? Not sure why you can't find any prefs folder. Have you searched your external drives? I have never used LW on win 98 ... 2000 is what I use it on. And only rarely lately to solve forum issues (much more-so last year.)

If you went thru the set up procedure after installing, then your LW prefs will be somewhere. Need to set show hidden files & folders in your search window options before you actually search, not after.

Yes, it is installed on my C:, as I mentioned in an earlier post. I now have
the 4.2.3 on all three drives. I had the 4.12.14 downloaded and installed
on an external drive, but when it didn't do any better, even somewhat
worse, I removed it and stayed with 4.2.3. I always keep the downloaded
setups so that I can reinstall if needed.

I have checked all the drives for the Prefs file, but it is totally non-existent
on any of the drives in either the old Limewire version, or the new. It took
me a good while to actually look at every file, and folder, double check to
insure that hidden files are shown, and then also use the 'Find' program in
the Windows Explorer. I checked, but I always have my settings to show
the hidden files. I checked that all before I ever made my original post in
this forum. Still, Nada. (Just try to imagine checking every
folder, and every file on each of three, separate hard drives with the total
files being 120406, and folders being 9630. It took me a bit of looking to
be sure that no such file existed. That was also backed up with the lack
of such a file or folder found with the 'Find' method.)
Even with the first ever installation of Limewire on this PC, it didn't work,
or have any Prefs folder/file, or anything similar. My old program always
did work before I switched to cable. I switched after I built this PC with
what I wanted, but before any installation, or use of Limewire. I still have
two other PC's with Limewire installed that I used with dialup. I no longer
have dialup service. Our only choices where I live are either dialup, or
Insight cable. Wireless is useless here due to poor location (radio wave
propagation lousy), and with such poor phone lines there is no DSL.
Both services are underground with the phone lines being 50+ years old.
