Let me try this again. I cannot connect...

1. OS version? WINDOWS XP PRO
2. What firewalls you have? WINDOWS (turned off)
3. How much ram? 1 gig
4. Hard Disk space available? 67gigs
5. Connection type? Cable DSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys NR041
7. Where are you trying to connect from ? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.0.8 JRE 5 update 11
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Road Runner Lite
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? IT WORKS
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 3 computers on hardwired router
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I have been using LW since 4.0.8 came out
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Not on this LW version
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP is enabled
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall :) I am using avg virus7.5 and antispyware 7.5. Both free editions
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA

I have tried about every suggestion on here. Hope someone can help. LW ws working until just recently. Thanks

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 2 here.
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things.

Rather than turning off your Windows firewall, configure it to allow LW.
User Cant Connect - LimeWire

The oldest version of LW I have is 4.8.1...that still works for me but I'm not sure about 4.0.8. If you have the 4.0.8 installer saved, you could always download the latest free version (4.12.14) & see if that connects. If you don't have the old installer saved, you'd lose that version completely if you installed a newer LW.

Your version doesn't have a firewall indicator. To see if there's a firewall interfering go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'. If it's false, you're not recieving incoming connections from other computers - probably due to a firewall problem.

If 'recieved incoming' is false, you could try port forwarding for your router. The instructions are here (the BEFSR41 is functionally the same as the NRO41).
Port Forwarding for the Linksys BEFSR41
Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP first. All ports within LW's options & port forwarded through the router have to be the same number ;)

Thx; I finally gave up....

trying to get 4.0.8 to work and downloaded the latest basic version for now to see how it works. I did everything everyone suggested and it didn't work. I then left all the changes and downloaded latest version and it came right up.

Thanks again:xeri_ok1ani:
