a windows update may be the connection problem

we have two computers at home one i use for gaming and anime downloading/storage and the other my sister uses for her paper work. both have same versions of limewire pro and we have been using those for about a year now and no problems. both also have same OS(xp pro sp2).

since we only use the other pc for papers and downloading we dont care much for it so the softwares there are rarely updated and we had the windows update turned off, the one i have been using for games has the automatic update on.

i say that a windows update may be the reason for the connection problems because the limewire in my pc stopped connecting only after i had a windows security update. i remembered that time because i usually choose which update i install. the update popped up and said new update are ready to be installed, i remember waiting for the song i am downloading in limewire to finish then i installed the security update and restarted. after the restart the limewire wont connect anymore.

i tried the other pc and the limewire there is still working.

this is why i think that the update is the problem, but i may be wrong.

i would have posted this earlier but i didnt figured out that the limewire forum is not the same with this forum.

i hope you guys can get this straightened up because from my experience this version of limewire is the best.

pearwood Hi
Thanks for taking the time to post.

Is this update(KB931261), one of those you just installed.

Universal Plug and Play may not be working properly Due to this update. "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)"
Removing this update is not Recommended & could make your computer vulnerable to attack.
For more info on this update, click on this blue link.
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-019: Vulnerability in Universal Plug and Play Could Allow Remote Code Execution (931261)

If this update is installed on your computer & UPnP is in use by Limewire,
Try switching to Manual Port forward using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port forward No, & listening port should be set at the same number
In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port forward.

If you are using a router to connect, that will also need configuring.
Find your router listed here, Use this blue link. & dont forget to create a static IP first, & click apply after changing each setting.

Your Servant,
Peace.
