A most peculiar set of circumstances.(connection problem)

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? : NETGEAR WNR 834B
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?: HOUSE
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. : PRO 4.12.11 & JAVA 1.6.0_01
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? :- VIRGIN MEDIA as NTL

Have been experiencing this problem for the past six weeks. I have also problems associated with other P2P programme (Azureus) which will not connect. Similar to Limewire it indicates a firewall. I have port forwarded (Port in the higher region). Virgin Media/NTL uses Proxies. I have catered for this on both Limewire and Azureus within settings. Still no show. I have checked if the ISP (Virgin/NTL) have any restrictions, apparently not. I have uninstalled and re-installed my Norton AntiVirus. I do not use Windows Firewall - I rely on the Routers NAT.
Now here is the weird thing. One of my other Wirelessly Networked PC's uses an older version of Limewire (not Pro) and also BitComet. Both of these work. The settings on both of these P2P programmes have remained unchanged since recently leaving AOL. There are no Proxy Settings enabled, No Port Forwarding, No UpNp. Yet they still both work?? The only thing different about this PC is that it uses ipv6 and Auto Tunelling (Teredo) I dont understand how this came to happen as it's not using VISTA. Could there be something about the WEP security that is enabling the Wirelessly Networked PC to work with the P2P. I am totally at a loss as to what is going on here. Anyone out there who can see an obvious reason as to why I am failing to connect please cast some light into a dark dark place.

Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

As I have dealt with Virgin before and I know that while they throttle P2P communications they will never publicly admit it. That is why I changed over to Bulldog, where they only partially throttle P2P since being taken over by Pipex.

As for WEP, based on my modem/router's user manual, it's an encrypted radio signal and so should not have a direct affect on your PCs, but who knows, stranger things have happened.

However, your Teredo implementation sound more interesting and seems to be the reason why your older PCs are not blocked. This is what I found out:
I'm guessing but, unless someone says different, the tunnelling protocol is different enough not to get blocked by "bandwidth shaping" anti-P2P technology.

See if you can add Teredo to your other blocked PCs, see how it works and let the forum know how you get on.

I have now implemented the Tunneling option to the other blocked PC's. For your information this is done by selecting the Peer to Peer option in Windows Networking Services which can be opened by selecting Add Remove Windows Components under Control Panel. Unfortunately it has not removed the blockage/firewall. I have also disconnected the Router and have reconnected to the Internet directly through the modem. This also has had no effect to the blockage. Through process of elimination one must assume that the blockage is software based within the PC. Alternatively it must be something that Virgin is up to. Is it possible that their server is in some way restricting only one PC on my network to access Limewire. Surely this can only be done by identifying the IP/MAC address for that PC?
