Connection Issues

I have read many threads on how to resolve this issue, as well as gone through your technical support guide and still no luck. I still get one bar and the firewall indicator. I have port forwarded, I have turned off my windows firewall, and my router's is off as well.

2. What firewalls you have? None
3. How much ram? 2048
4. Hard Disk space available? 300GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem- Motorola Surfboard, Router- Linksys WRT54G
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? RoadRunner (Time Warner)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? "Your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I have the connection to myself, but share it with my laptop. No other P2P clients.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem, experienced user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I've tried both. UPnP is enabled and that did not work, so I tried port forwarding.

drpenrose Hi.

Roll back your java, that version is not working with XP properly

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Only use one firewall, 2 running will conflict with each other, turn XP off.

Universal Plug and Play may not be working properly Due to this update. "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)"
Removing this update is not Recommended & could make your computer vulnerable to attack.
For more info on this update, click on this blue link.
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-019: Vulnerability in Universal Plug and Play Could Allow Remote Code Execution (931261)

If this update is installed on your computer & UPnP is in use by Limewire,
Try switching to Manual Port forward using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port forward No, & listening port should be set at the same number
In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port forward.
How to use Manual Port forward.
If you are using a router, or modem/router to connect, that will also need configuring.
Find your router listed here, Use this blue link. & dont forget to create a static IP first, & click apply after changing each setting.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

Check This.
Port Forwarding for the Norton Internet Security 2007
If you feel that your Norton isn't configured properly with Limewire,
Click on this Blue link...it will help you Configure it.
Port Forwarding for the Norton Internet Security 2007
Your Servant,
Peace.

Thanks for the suggestions

Unfortunately they didn't fix the problem. I did almost everything to the letter until it got to the part in the Norton's port-forwarding that told me to change the port to something between 10000 & 60000. Not knowing which numbers I could use, I decided I'd better leave that alone. I'm beginning to think my ISP is blocking P2P file sharing traffic because I downloaded and installed Bitspirit thinking I'd have to use something other than LW. Bitspirit also won't work. Any thoughts on whether or not a reputable computer shop repair would touch this - being as P2P file sharing is supposed to be illegal.... Thanks again!
